Fake cop! Chokechai thought 400,000 baht would get him into the force!

Chaiyaphum native Chokechai "Moss" Kropkrathoke, 21, always dreamt of being in the Royal Thai Police.

So when he was approached by someone who could "oil the wheels" on the path to his dream he jumped at the chance.

He said that he paid 400,000 baht to get him into the Jor Hor training academy in Korat or Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand's north east.

He took the entrance exam and passed and did the three month basic training. He was then told to go home and wait for further instructions.

He was thrilled when through the post he got his papers confirming him as a lance corporal. He also got a bright new uniform to go with his position in the force.

But this is when his dream started to crumble.

The letter said he was to present himself for duty at the Chaiyaphum police station.

There he was met by the station chief Pol Col Wattanachai Janthathum who promptly arrested him.

All his papers were fake and he had not been given a position in the RTP at all.

Investigators have cast doubt on Chokechai's claims about his training at the academy.

They believe that a gang is behind all this RTP shenanigans and are expanding the inquiry to ascertain who they are, reported Daily News.

It depends on the applicant's gullibility.

There's a theory stating the amount required is proportional to the susceptibility of the victim.

Good job the people at the top of the RTP are setting good examples by not buying/selling positions or giving jobs to family members.

One of the problems with Thai society is the fairly common unofficial practice of purchasing appointments. Not only because it may mean you don't get the best person for the job, but it also encourages the development of additional revenue streams, as the appointees want to recover their initial outlay.

While some pays money to get in, others pays to get out... it is well know that for 40K into the right hands would be conscripts will get a free pass from getting enlisted...

You'd have thought he would have wised up on day 2 of the old, toothless man telling him to run around the empty field on his own

Poor lad set his heart on being an honest cop

LOL ????

If it is wrong to pay your way into the force (or up the ranks), probably 80% of police officers should be arrested. But by whom?

He doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed. He would've been perfect for the force.

 Thai's are really entertaining! ????

I imagine you'd pass if you could write your name without a spelling error. Keystone Kops.

Not necessarily in a good way, often more in a 'shake your head in disbelief' way

In UK it used to be just the right handshake

Nudge nudge wink wink. ????

Looking at the OP photo I reckon undercover work wouldn't be an option.

Why would he think there was corruption in the police ????

Fool!  Doesn't he know that RTP positions are 100% based on merit?

This is the one we know about, how many more?

He almost certainly didn't, that's the point.

Who'd have thought this sort of thing went on ?

Not sure if the amount would suffice to get into the force...but definately enough for starting level cops,  to get a small promotion for sure...

Would have thought 400 large would have bought him at least a Pol Maj-Gen Job????

I found this to be a very sad story.

Well,

there is the story about the Glasgow cop who, at 2am, found a dead horse in Sauchiehall St and dragged it around to Hope St because it was easier to spell on the report.
