Thai social media was abuzz with interest after an accident in Phrapradaeng, Samut Prakan south east of Bangkok.

A 48 year old professor at a well known university was driving a Volvo when he hit two policemen on a patrol motorcycle.

The "ajarn" was drunk, three times over the DUI limit.

Both police were injured and taken to hospital. A pick-up was also damaged.

A 70 year old grandmother was also injured.

She appeared on a Channel 3 news video to say that the Volvo was going at great speed.

The professor refused to go with police and have his vehicle towed to the station. He said he wanted to wait for his sister.

When she arrived he tried to flee the scene with her but police stopped them.

This resulted in a massive rant from the sister who claimed that the police were trying to assault her.

She kept screaming on the video: "How can you do this? I am a woman!".

The Phrapradaeng police said that they had acted in accordance with the law and no one had laid a hand on the woman.

The professor tested positive for alcohol with a 161 mg reading.

The limit for experienced drivers is 50 in Thailand.

  • what about inexperienced drivers?

Why this moron tried to flee the scene? Did he not have the 500 THB to buy him out of any trouble? Or did he just want to avoid a wai to the vicitms?

imo the only way to get a handle on these crimes is to jail offenders on their first offence, taking away a persons freedom is the only effective wake up call..

Typical Thai Hi-So society, I'm above the Law you cannot touch me. Lock them both up, they should be set as examples that you cannot get away with it.

In the USA they would have been tasered or shot.

500 baht? How long have you been here? Knocked down two cops and a 70 year old woman and then went on a drunken tirade. A heck of a lot more than that. With all the onlookers it was not gonna happen on the street anyway.

And the other question where do you find Thai experienced drivers?

Let me start you off with Lavinia Fisher who was, supposedly, the first female serial killer in the United States, convicted and hanged with her husband in 1820.  There many before her in various countries around the world, especially the Hungarian Countess Elizabeth (Erzsébet) Báthory who was one of the most ruthless killers in European history.  Between 1585 and 1610, she is believed to have tortured and killed nearly 650 girls–mostly teenage peasants.

That's one loud mouthed hiso rag you would'nt mind seeing get a good slap around the ears!

The moment she slapped the Police Officers hands she should have been arrested, a night in the cells would have woken her up to the realities of being a b1tc# doesn’t always work...

Unfortunately the police are in a very difficult position - damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

Their [The Police] patience is admirable - the woman is lucky she wasn’t dropped cuffed and arrested.

As far as the DUI is concerned - not enough is ever done to deal with this issue in Thailand.

The issue is not one of stopping and fining those guilty of DUI, the issue is to send the message to all, everyone, hi-so’s, policemen, politicians, military and every single facet of society that no matter who you are DUI will be dealt with severely and equally. Until then the whole legal system remains a joke.

Within a second after she lapped his hand, a real police officer would have her arrested and cuffed. It's always amazed me with how much the BIB will tolerate.

They are Full of remorse for nearly killing 2 police officers !
