Teachers, students, parents who travelled to six countries urged to stay at home for 14 days

Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan

Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan said on Sunday (February 23) that the ministry has asked teachers and students who had travelled to six countries -- China, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore -- to stay at home for 14 days.

The measure is in line with the Public Health Ministry’s guidelines to prevent the spread of coronavirus, he said. Parents of students who travelled to those six countries should also stay at home in order to make sure that they were not infected by the coronavirus, he said.

The number of virus cases in Thailand remains at 35, while Japan and South Korea recently experienced a spike in infected patients.

Experts earlier believed that the virus could be transmitted to other people even though those infected may not have fallen ill yet, as the coronavirus incubation takes 14 days before making people ill. Recently, however, scientists studying virus cases in China said that the virus incubation period could be longer than 14 days.

Sounds like a sensible request.

So nearly 2 months into this situation, and they have finally suggested something worthwhile. But what about the Chinese tourists that are coming in daily, do they need to self isolate? It seems pretty contradictory to ask a small portion of Thai citizens to self isolate, when thousands of Chinese people and other 'hot spot' nationals are entering on a daily basis.

It is really hard to see how even the most ignorant, brainwashed, faux patriotic Thai Hi So can even begin to believe the complete drivel the junta are spouting

Surely there can be nobody who actually believes there are only 35 covid 19 cases in Thailand even in an educationally retarded low i.q country like this, very scary if there are....

Missus’ niece went to see the doctor on Saturday. The doctor advised to wash hands regularly and keep the house very clean. He also told them not to believe the official numbers about the coronavirus and be very cautious.

The crazy thing is that every person is welcome with those Fingerprint readers at the airport. If there were an infected individual these things make sure the infection gets picked up by all arrivals following.

last week, any alcohol spray was kept behind the desk upon request only.

welcome to Thailand

Then why not put every single person traveling from these countries under the same conditions of entry? Why pick on these people?

If you don't have it on hand yourself, how can you blame others from not having it?

1200 suspected cases. Testing takes 4 hours in Bangkok. Make your own conclusions.

good anticipatory precaution although it does not guarantee 100% safety due to the yet undetermined incubation period of the corona virus COVID-19. better to start somewhere.

it would be more prudent to be transparent upfront because the disease will become uncontrollable if unchecked in time.

Visitors having been to China stay at home but Chinese tourists please continue to go around Thailand coughing, spitting and shouting, seems flawed somewhere ????

was there a choice. the situation is glaring in everybody's face. there is no controversy that visitors from china are most likely to infect others, thank tourists from other destinations, although japan and south korea are also of concern now.

And they're really gonna listen and do that!!!!

One day the human population will realise and accept that the only way to stop pandemics like this one, and the others that will follow, is to do 2 things.  1. Seek out and eradicate the sources - in this case being a specific species of bats.  2. Once a global pandemic is declared, immediately cease all human travel - all planes, ships, etc.

Years ago there was a good movie about it all - 12 Monkeys.  Some nutter in a research laboratory decided mankind needed to end and so he travelled around the world from airport to airport releasing an airborne virus that killed most humans.

The pathway that will lead to mankind's destruction is clear and obvious - emotions and stupidity.  I can travel all over the world on airplanes spreading a deadly virus, but I cannot take a pair of nail clippers on any of those planes.

That's exactly the point - they want to be able to blame the Chinese - not Thais

Its already too late with these numbskulls.

Let the chinese in, tell your own people to go in quarantine?

Its likely to be uncontrollable already.

Could be a good vehicle for selected curbing of population growth....

This government risks the life of the people living in the country just to show, Thailand has not many cased of Corona virus: but who believes the statement of this government! Just all a lie and yes, try to get more Chinese to spread the various around to the population living here!

Now these bored kids are free to head to the malls and infect even more people!  Good thinking guys!

Pity it wasn't requested by the government one month ago.

If I read it correctly, teachers, parents or children who visited 6 particular countries are being asked to self quarantine on their return. If your occupation is not teaching, you have no children and you are not a child, you can visit those countries and not need to self quarantine on your return. And if you are a national of those countries, or any other country for that matter, you do not need to self quarantine when visiting Thailand from those countries.

is anyone else seeing a hole in Thailand’s Covid defences?

sensible? I think not.
