Pita Limjaroenrat, Left, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, Right

The ban of Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, former leader of the now-dissolved Future Forward Party, from future elections over a Bt191.2-million loan he extended to his party, reflects the fact that he has never been a reliable leader who might sow chaos in the country, said columnist Erawan of Thansettakij newspaper.

Representatives of the people must possess the right qualification and not doctor documents after entering the House of Representatives.

If a representative is not familiar with the law, he should consult the Election Commission first in order not to expose his party to legal risks. Because of Thanathorn’s childish behaviour, this country cannot depend on him.

He could face more charges through his attempt to establish a new party by handing over the 65 MPS to his successor Pita Limjaroenrat.

This move violates Section 28 of the Organic Act on Political Parties, B.E. 2560 (2017), prohibiting political parties to let persons who are not members of parties control, manipulate or persuade activities of the parties.

Violation of that section might lead to dissolution of the parties, according to Section 92 (3).

Furthermore, local politicians who are registered under Future Forward Party might be banned from future elections and their right to propose law prohibited for 10 years.

Before doing anything, Future Forward should prepare itself for the fallout of the dissolution, including charges from the Election Commission with might carry penalties of up to 10 years of imprisonment.

And exactly what qualification(s) does Prayut have to represent the people ?

And I am sure that the Election Commission is not there, to assist opposition of the person who selected them for their position within the E.C.

I would say this "opinion" piece was written by someone who understands the term "job security"

Well, third time will be charm; imprisonment!

But he hasn't handed 65 MPs to Pita Limjaroenrat. 9 of them have joined Bhumjai Thai.

Pita, however, will make an excellent leader to carry on the flame.

He completed his education in the States and when he came back he rescued his father's rice oil company. At the time it had debts of 100 million baht and he turned it round in a short time.

The road to democracy is long and narrow.

However, being a convicted drug smuggler and having fake qualifications is fine for some.

Sorry , but his is just blah blah without any substance ...

Dear Mr. Erawan , your behaviour is not childish , but that of someone who had been bought , not worth to listen to .

Looks like the actual rulers want to make an example out of Thanathorn's case ... ( if you dare to bother us , we will destroy you completely and take all your fortune away ( and put it in our own pockets ) , and you will end up in prison . )

Thanathorn should be looking for another place where he could live in the future , away from Thailand ... may be Dubai ?

Dear Lord! The heroin smuggler (a conviction that would have seen you executed in the early 90s here) has a fake PhD. We know it's fake. It's been proven. And their reason to let this slide? You only need a bachelor's degree. I must remember to tell future potential employers that I have a PhD. I'll just be sure they state bachelor's as a minimum in case they find out I lied. They'll be so impressed with my semantics when I explain I did nothing wrong.

Don't talk about people doctoring documents. By the way, 'to doctor' means to change a document in order to deceive people. Which is exactly what Mr heroin smuggler did on his CV.

This country is very quickly going down the s h I tt er

The "rulers" will settle for nothing short of a nuclear option.

Probably a very brown proboscis too.

Gee this does not reek of stifling the opposition.  The gull of calling the Americans idiots was the cherry on top of the whipped opposition.

The junta has put them on double secret probation it seems, yet many a law professor sees faults in the court ruling.   Tough act to appease the elite and make sense of deflowering the law.   Hope those professors can give the Thai government's courts a refresher course in law.   Given that many of them fancy luxury villas on nature preserves, it may be difficult to get them to take such trivial matters seriously.

dissolved party, well, what happens to the 191 million baht ?

It ticks for the 1%.   Those projects go to wealthy Thais or Chinese.   The average Thai has less to look forward to than the average Chinese, Malaysian and now Vietnamese.   Keep cheering on those who ruin it for everyone else Stevo.   Its part of your "charm".

Shouldn't that be a PM player ??

Thanathorn has the money to escape, just like Thaksin. But I think he is too much of a symbol & idealist for that. I'll bet he'll be arrested before the year's out, though he'll likely get bail. (And then he can flee.) It's not worth becoming a martyr. The generals don't use Vaseline!

So their only option is to join an already existing party even if they don't agree with their policy?
Seems they covered all bases with their new rules.

The Junta virus super spreaders..
