I've called them Florence, Dougal, Bryan, Dylan & Zebedee (Magic Roundabout - Brits of my age will know!). But I'm fast running out of ideas for names. Single dogs are fairly easy, I wait until a name comes to me that suits them, but twos, threes, fours etc I like to keep within a theme. I've done Harry Potter books, children's tv, Native American tribes, numbers in various languages, alcoholic drinks, alphabetical names, herbs, etc Has anyone any ideas for new names (within a theme, if possible; it's easier for me to remember)? Womble names Planet names Thai colours and of course English colours and maybe french etc. We went through a stage of giving our dogs family names (good if in groups)(last name first same as Chinese) So it would be Pong Pew, Pong Pan and Pong Pai Then we all knew they were from the Pong family!! TV member names: Tiggy Suegha, Thaddy, Lao Po, Donna, Kayo, Terry, Miggy, FS, Buck, DSK, SBK, DJT -- may be especially appropriate for crossing the look/personality of the dog with the TV star. Ooooh, those would be good stories. Puppy: I was named Kayo because I have long ears, a bobbed tail, a warped sense of humour, and I bark alot in several languages. Off the top of my head I remember guilder, rupee, riyal, dirham, dong, dollar (and cent) mark, lira, and tanner. These were all pre euro though so many will have gone. bina Posted April 8, 2007 Share Posted April 8, 2007 whiskey types: we had boxers: they all got brandy bourbon sherry rye etc my male boxer's breeder used movies; each litter got a movie theme our sheep got the name of the breeder with a number tagged to the end: we had sassi 1 sassi 2 sassi 3 (two a year and then traded for two more younger) the goats get colours markings (blackie brownie etc in three languages to choose from) and personalities (silly, stupid, lazy, etc) plus duplicates of the same so lai number two became lai lai (we get to use four languages though: thai english arabic and hebrew the kibbutz cows used to get the names of all the women on the kibbutz starting with a and working towards z (hebrew and then english names) our donkeys that are born on site (not adoptions) get the month or day they were born (again, we get two different calendars for that one)or nearest holiday u can go for politicians, important people, movie stars u can add the word little or big to most names creating a new name... biblical names in several languages (had sheep using the five old testament mothers' names) our new adotped lhasa apso *yuck yuck but here to stay' got the thai name :foofoo !!! everyone on the kibbutz laughs at that name... its the thai equivalent of calling your dog fluffy i guess. foods/company brands like nabisco heinz campell whatever...salt pepper sugar spice paprika etc candy types: marshmallo, licorice, chocolada, coco, soda pop types: cola, fanta, sprite, etc a whole group of poodles on the kibbutz have fruit names!: kiwi, peaches, tutti (berry in hebrew), cherry, etc how can u run out of names our boxer has nala as does half the country since when we got her the lion king was a popular movie; also lots of bambis etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
