Thailand records first coronavirus death - health official

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand has recorded its first coronavirus death as a 35-year-old man, who also had dengue fever, dies from the virus, Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoen, director-general of the Department of Disease Control, said in the news conference on Sunday.

Covid-19 claims first life in Thailand

A 35-year-old Thai man, who worked as a salesman and had been infected with Covid-19, died on Saturday (February 29) at 6.25pm, the director of communicable diseases, Dr Sopon Iamsirithawon, said on Sunday (March 1).

More than 2,700 cruise tourists arrive in Patong

PHUKET: Officers from Phuket Public Health Office along with medical staff from Patong Hospital were on hand to check more than 2,700 people disembarking cruise ships at Patong Beach yesterday (Feb 29).

PHUKET: Without doubt, Phuket over the past few weeks has been a changed island. With far fewer tourists than usual this time of year, as of Monday (Feb 23) down more than 36% year on year, anyone lucky enough to be in Phuket has been enjoying beautiful clear skies, light traffic and uncrowded beaches.

Commerce Ministry backs domestic sales of fruit to offset China export blockage

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce has prepared measures to support the sale of fruit in Thailand, after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation cut exports to China. The ministry has also called on oil palm farmers to be confident the price of their produce will not fall further after dropping from seven baht a kilogram to just above the state guarantee price of four baht, at a current five baht.

Approval being expedited after Digital Fund 2020 receives over 400 proposals

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Digital Economy Fund was set up in 2017 as required by the Act on Digital Development for the Economy and Society. The fund, supported by the National Broadcast and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), has reached over 5 billion baht.

Strengthening immunity one way to avoid Covid-19

As of February 29, 41 Covid-19 cases had been diagnosed in Thailand. No deaths have been reported. Signs and symptoms of Covid-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Preliminary data suggest that older adults and persons with underlying health conditions or compromised immune systems might be at greater risk for severe illness from the virus.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court this week gets its first chance to consider new curbs on abortion rights with President Donald Trump's two conservative appointees on the bench as it examines the legality of a Louisiana law that could force two of the state's three clinics that perform the procedure to shut down.
