I know it's not possible to get a work permit on a retirement extension of stay but can I 'convert' using either of the following 2 options.

1. Straight out convert the retirement extension of stay to a non-O extension of stay? On what grounds? I think this is unlikely but would be pleased to hear otherwise.

2. Leave Thailand without a re-entry permit and re-enter, thus invalidating the retirement extension. Then get the company paperwork and travel to another country to apply for the Non-O B visa to enable me to get a work permit on my return.

Thoughts and advice greatly appreciated.

1. That is not possible unless you mean changing to a extension based upon marriage to a Thai.

2. Your work permit would have to applied for prior to going out for the non-b visa that requires a work permit application approval letter.

You could also stay out of the country until a WP3 work permit application was done and the receipt for it sent you so that you could apply for the non-b visa.

You could get a single entry non-o visa in Vientiane or Savannakhet, Laos.

You will need their birth certificate and a copy of it, copies of their house book registry and ID card if old enough to have one. The fee will be 2000 baht.

You could then apply for a extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai. You would need to show 400k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 40k baht income.
