Border Gate improvements planned to boost trade

The Royal Government of Cambodia has unveiled plans to improve facilities at border gates with Thailand and Vietnam in order to ease cross-border transport and boost trade activities.

The Economic and Financial Policy Committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, agreed to take urgent measures to improve the cross-border transport with Thailand and Vietnam, according to a press release from the Ministry of Economy and Finance issued recently. The urgent measures taken after studies found that the border gates with Thailand and Vietnam have been crowded with traffic of cross-border transport and tourists.

 

The development of Cambodia’s cross-border infrastructure and the separation of traffic at the border checkpoints are urgently needed, the press release read. Aun Pornmoniroth, who is also Minister of Economy and Finance, said that the government focuses on renovation of infrastructure at the Bavet-Moc Bai international border checkpoint in Svay Rieng province. He asked the officials to work closely with Vietnamese officials to implement the one-window service at the border.
