300-400 suspected new coronavirus infections investigated in Thailand every day

COVID-19 infections in Thailand are steadily increasing, with the number of new suspected cases being investigated averaging 300-400 a day, said public health permanent secretary-general Dr. Sukhum Kanchanapimai at a news conference today (Friday).

 

He warned all Thai workers returning from South Korea, except those working in the cities of Daegu, the centre of COVID-19 outbreak in the country, and in the northern Gyeongsang province, to comply strictly with the 14-day self-quarantine measure, otherwise they will be sent to state facilities for confinement.

 

To ensure strict compliance, he made clear that the returnees from South Korea will not be allowed to confine themselves at home, but at locations in the vicinity of their homes and under the supervision of health volunteers and local officials.

Have the lackluster Thai government been shamed into actually doing something because of the virility of posters on Thai Visa I  wonder???

Haven't over 1100 Thais returning from Korea before March 2  already slipped into the country under the radar ?  What about these ? News was that the government is "trying"  to locate them.  In our little town of Kantharalak, rumours since March 4 are going around, that 2 "phi noi" ("little ghosts") returnees from Korea have been quarantained in the government hospital of Kantharalak . . . . . . . 

these are the tip of the Iceberg, numbers from ‘viral pneumonia’ which they hoped could be covered up and not called covid-19, clearly they are seeing higher levels of infections and cannot hide it any more,

Investigated means what?

Checked temperature?

last official figure I saw was 3000 and that was nearly two weeks ago

 

My interpretation of Viral Pneumonia infection is people that are very sick that cannot afford the fee for the covid 19 test and are just sent to the village to deal with their situation - in other words abandoned 

 

The fact it went from 0 to 3000 since January should tell us something

No.

 

Now that other countries are in the limelight, and drawing the attention of the worlds media further from Thailand, the government is starting to let the truth seep out.......before it bursts out.

 

 

 

The devil of course is in the details. Who are the 300-400 being tested every day? Those returning or arriving from overseas, or average people turning up at the local hospital sick? If the former, to be expected, if the latter, we are all in lots of trouble.

and there is the problem - rumours instead of accurate truthful information that will allow people to be informed of the real situation here and react to it to protect themselves - lying and covering up is the worst thing they could do

So its not 100% under control then we need someone fast to order it gone ????

well it seems clear that the only cases they will admit to are from foreigners arriving from overseas - nothing to do with Thailand - these ones came here infected 

 

That is the narrative for pretty much every case announced in Thailand so far except one taxi driver and even he could be attributed to being infected by …………………….. a foreigner

 

as for Thais infecting Thais ..……...nope not one, they all have Viral Pneumonia - all 3000

Thanks. If all superiors in Thailand act like our Thai colleagues at a school, then there's no hope.

 

Even when they suspected a few cases of the virus on campus, we foreigners were not informed. 

 

The Thai teachers started to wear masks, and the truth came from an outside source.

 

Until now, there was only gossip.

 

Some people say that there are kids who got infected with the virus; some say there aren't any. 

Confusion.

It really amazes me that the possibility of whole villages being infected and being shunned and told its just the flu without testing is a possible reality.  Hiding this fact is just going to make things like they were first in Wuhan. People may panic if the truth hits the light of day, but the issue is much larger than this government wants to admit.  Be like an Ostrich and put your head in the sand.......

Thailand's official numbers are probably fake. Maybe it is a matter of "face" - and we know how thais love face - they are afraid to end up in all the media in the world, so they hide the real data, or they do not test the cases. 

How much does a hospital test cost, for example? (in a mainly privatized health care system, everyone has access to health services?)

I remember that when China officially announced the virus in January, at that time 13.000 Wuhan citizens were in Thailand, and in the following weeks hundreds of Chinese citizens arrived every day. 

How is it possible to have "only" 48 infected?

In addition, the behaviour of the Minister of Health is borderline shameful, as it deresponsibilizes the Thai institutions and people, accusing foreigners of infecting the Thai people. 

 

 

Im sure they find something but it is not reported in.So the world outside do not know.

Of course they are scared of how bad ot would look for the tourism

it’s a mass cover up here, i suspect that the 300 a testing a day now is just to appease the IMF and WHO loan of 2-3 billion dollars, along with other things for show, like quarantine, airport checking, crisis team,masks, cash handouts

 

the 300 I suspect they are really talking about is ‘viral pneumonia’ which is probably a small percentage of all infections of Wuhan virus, it’s also a good excuse to hide behind new confirmed cases of those ‘viral’ numbers, they seem to be increasing in total a few hundred from Jan, let’s hope it’s not on the same scale, cover up in Iran, that’s a perfect example, when you dont test, and don’t care until it’s too late

i should be clear now that Thailand's fight to contain the virus is coming off the rails.

 

this is just the beginning. look for draconian measures popping up as a knee jerk reaction to these stories.

A friend of mine just came back from a trip to the US, and his report was more than a joke.

 

  They always pulled him out to make their temperature tests and offered some fluid for his hands while all the others walked through. Unchecked. 

 

If you only have 15 minutes to make it to your connecting flight, but they pull you out three times, it doesn't make much sense. 

Do they care if you don't make it in time? 

 

 Living here for 18 years has taught me how things here work. 

 

They don't tell you the truth, and why would they do so if the tourist numbers could go down?

 

It's somehow very similar to the three Chinese monkeys.

 

Don't see the virus. 
Don't hear what other people tell them.
Don't tell others what they should do and know.

You mean your friend was singled out while the rest were not checked? Why is that?

 

 

Unless they test those "suspected cases"... the whole stuff is pointless and not interesting.

 

Thailand should do like Korea, like Italy.... MASSIVE TESTING.

 

And it should announce the total number of tested people, and update it every day.

 

It's the only way to:

-assess the real situation

-inform correctly the public

-and eventually save more people

 

Obviously Thailand has decided to go another way, like USA. The BS way, the "head into the sand" way, the "mai ru" way, the "pruni it will be better" way, the "spring, tom yam and prik will save us" way.

I doubt it. They've been all over this like a rash from day-one... just that the haters can't see it that way.

 

What's this about 'virility' anyway? Are you doing those bloody testosterone shots as well or is it just the regular pre-jump Kamagra?

Or the "worried well" midde and upper classes willing to pay a private hospital to test them ecen though they do not meet testing criteria.

Ah yes... the moobahn gulag bodybag theory. I threw that one out for general consumption on another, similarly over-infatuated forum just a few hours ago so it's nice to see that someone pick it up and run with it already.

 

Truly it doesn't matter if this or any government has been somewhat remiss with facts and a bit cavalier with the details. The fact is Covid-19 is here in Thailand already so instead of rinsing and gargling on internet forums, we should just concentrate on washing our hands.
