No longer an assumption. Studies are now coming out of China that suggest that this is particularly true for Covid-19. Happy days. Bring on the rainy season. Songkran will see off this blot on the landscape.

It has not been peer reviewed that is the crucial thing

Though I agree with you about the heat and Humidity theory, there is another discrepancy at play between Thailand and Italy.

The Virus seems to affect the elderly more, so the higher the percentage of an elderly population, the higher the savere and reportable cases, so I did a google search.

Italy:               22.2% over 65

Thailand :        12.9% over 65

Older persons are often more prone to ilness due the possibly already compromised immune system, comorbidities and other age related factors, especially if they were/are smokers.

The younger with compromised immune systems will also be at risk

From what I initially read, the situation in Italy was kicked off by workers from Wuhan returning after CNY, they were all employed in the clothing industry! A lot of the clothing industry workers in Italy are Chinese.

Pretty much the same as Thailand and everywhere else. Initial cases can be traced back to China. What's is interesting and relevant is the large discrepancies between countries regarding the progress of the disease. It's no longer defensable to put the difference between Thailand and Italy down to the Thai government hiding the problem or indeed taking more prudent measures. It's not in the control of any government to make such large differences. The answer lies elsewhere.

Not crucial at all. Doesn't make it any less true, just less justified.

Peer review doesn't prove the proposal is correct , it only passes judgement along with comments on it being valid and acceptable as a reasonable study.

There are so many factors it is difficult to make correlations.

Interesting that you would mention smoking. As you know most CoronaVirus deaths are attributed to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) , I was reading about pre-existing conditions being a big factor in CoronaVirus deaths, but I did not see , or even think about smoking.

I wonder how smoking is affecting the epidemiology?

China has a high rate of smokers, as does Italy

Thailand also the same,as many Asian nations

Have you ever been to Italy? The locals can't keep their hands off each other in public. Hugging kissing and embracing even relative strangers. The most touchy feely nation on the planet. That's why Covid-19 loves them so much.

What i been told is that in that area in Italy there always are lots of Chinese especially from Wuhan that is doing all sorts of business and traveling there so that fact seems a more logical explanation to me about why that location is been hitting hard and fast with the virus.

Lots of Chinese! https://www.ecnmy.org/engage/prato-chinese-stuff-look-around/

Chinese tourists in Italy per year: around 2 million.

In Thailand:  Over 10 million.

Thailand should be by now much worse than Italy. It is the hot&humid.

It doesn't explain the rapid spread through the population at all. Also far more Chinese in Thailand initially than Italy.

even if temp is somehow involved what about all the shopping centers - hotels - hospitals - airports - buses - mass transport etc that are all air conditioned and the most likely places for transmission ?

Reasonable comment, how about the possibility that the higher temp., say Thailand - limits the transfer of the virus external to the A/C areas from hand to hand to contact areas meaning less is transferred to A/C areas - - of course anyone already affected in any area has the potential to transfer the virus - but it would appear that the numbers affected are low - - - why?

A typical coronavirus survives about 30 times longer in 6 C than in 20 C. In 30 C is mere 1-2 hours at best. That would explain why Wuhan and northern Italy got so bad, 0-10 C typical temperature Jan-Mar. The virus survived on doorknobs, guard rails, public toilets and what not for days, instead of few hours.

Cooler temperatures in northern Italy in comparison with Thailand is the difference here.

Exactly that spot in Italy is full with Chinese. To blame it on the Italians themselves for over using their hand for touching is hilarious.

Good question, but this is Thailand ????

However the Thai social media don't seem to be bucking the low official numbers - - so?

Really? The whole of Thailand was full of Chinese a couple of months ago, a large percentage from the same province. To blame the metioric spread through Italy on the Chinese is far more hilarious. The main medium of transmission of Covid-19 is through contact. Why do you think that every government that has a problem with this is banging on and banging on about not shaking hands?

How do you think that the manager of Arsenal Football Club caughtg it from an official of a Greek football club that they were playing? They shook <deleted> hands.

Eh yeah partially correct but how the virus came to Italy first and not for example Portugal? The huge Chinese community in Northern Italy ! Why in Italy it spreads faster then Thailand? The temperature difference !

Er no, completely correct. Thanks for defeating your own argument. At last!

Isnt just coincidence that after Anutins statement for dirty farangs, cases started to rising? Hmm it doesnt add up...

And so what nationalities do their corona cases have? All Dirty Farangs?

The thing is, numbers are rising and ofcourse he wanted to say that the Thais and Asians arent the ones who spread the Virus but foreigners from Europe, USA... Especially Europe

They better stay with the facts !

"A stitch in time, saves nine". The Government never lost control simply because it was never in control. However, they had an opportunity to slow and control this virus, learning best practices from other countries, now this will cost them Hundreds of Billion of Thai Baht .... more than the measly Chinese tourist revenue ever contributed. When the general population starts to suffer - sickness, job losses, etc, it might even cost them an election. Let's see how this rolls as it going to get ugly.

You need to read up, they cannot lose an election, it is (militarily) mandated that they automatically have the majority of seats. There is only one way they can be replaced...

If it’s fair to assume Wuhan Lab virus (aka COVID-19) has governments worldwide underreporting mild cases, then one can also surmise the WHO’s stated mortality rate of 3.4% is also inaccurate.   And China controls all of their virus data.  So we can only guess at these numbers.

Using alt-right nationalist nonsense terms helps no-one but your own warped world view. Only the US has ever used an nuclear weapon on civilian population is another pointless 'point'. This is a human problem affecting the human race on planet earth. And anyway this nationalistic deflection is exactly the same playbook Anutin and his nationalistic cronies are pointing at you - "the dirty farang''.

Depending very much on the ambient temperature.
