The chief of the Bang Lamung police told Sophon Cable TV that eight new CCTV cameras are being installed in his jurisdiction.

Pol Col Patanachai Phamornphiboon promised that they would be good quality and high resolution.

They could see in both the day and night, he stressed.

The cameras are being installed in two phases - phase one from the Saphan Yao bridge to the Na Klua market and phase two from the market to Wat Sawang Fah.

The chief said he hopes that this will help with the safety of both locals and tourists and help protect their property.

A budget of 70,000 baht has been allocated from a police fund for the installation.

Crikey Night Vision n'all .. Thai ghosts best beware ..

How many cameras?

OK maybe able to get half decent cameras of Alibaba for a thousand THB but the they will need wiring up all the way to Soi 9 or connecting to the internet, and connecting to power.

Just a way out Thai logic..

They spend 37 Mill THB on a floating pontoon in Jomtien and 70K on CCTV..

Seems a bit lob sided to me...  ????????????

WOW 70.000 baht, that is a p++s take surely.

Millions spent on crazy projects, yet a mere 70.000 on security, priorities wrong imo.

Alternatively they could politely ask a couple of officers if they wouldn't mind stepping out of their A/C offices with a speed gun & bringing down the 2nd worst road casualty figures in Thailand.

Will 75% of them be out of order in no time like the previous lot?

Oh no, I see it it now as an officer with his mind on his phone and not concentrating, pulls out the wrong 'gun' and shoots it at an oncoming vehicle.

Will they also have 'good quality and high' IQ staff to monitor all this 24/7?

Maybe the cameras are guaranteed for a lot less time than the pontoons 2 years

Most probably buy 'em from the yeesip baht shop.

Rest of the dosh goes you know where.

But don't forget they also need the expense of an empty ice cream container to make it waterproof, and a bamboo pole to mount it on.

You can install the most expensive ones, without maintenance they are worth nothing ...

Probably got some "vehicle rear view mirrors" from LAZ, gonna get them hooked up somewhere!

70,000 baht. Does that include postage and packing?

Haven’t they spent millions on the cameras already?
