New Bar / Eatery In Buriram...

Australian guy, Ron, will be opening the "Tavern Bar" on Monday 9 th April in Buriram. Free food from 5 - 8.30 pm. Good beer prices. Meals will be served from the next day (brekky, lunch, diner etc) onwards. The place is fully airconditioned and has a big screen tv and pool table. Plenty of parking out the front. Location, opposit the Caltex servo at 23/ 54-55 Anuwat Rd Buriram. Just up and through one set of lights from the Day market, heading for the new lake construction.

I picked this up from a flyer in town today. Good to see someone offering something new in Buriram and giving us thirsty Farang another choice of watering holes :o

Yep best of luck, but I seen so many Farang businesses fold in Burriram, lets see what happens

Mac,

I also have seen them come and go, an example of this is the guy who use to own the Bamboo, he started off good, the trouble there was he drank the profit, he now has no wife, no job, no Driving license, no property, UK or Thailand, lost the lot, another is the sugarcane in Surin, he is still in IDC for 4 years overstay, also some of these guys who open a Business in Thailand think it is easy and treat it more like a hobby, most have never ran a Business in there life, some make it, some do not, i admire Martin at the ferrang conection, he has made a good job, and got his fingers in a few pies, that is the way to go, good luck to the guy, i have ran my own Business since i left school, but now the time has come to get out ,i am 43, had enough of all the red tape now involved, i am in the middle of selling for half a mil, wife wants to go home, all you ferangs know the UK is bloody hard work, and getting worse, they even now want to charge you 10.00 if you are having a barbie, that is another new rule they hope to bring in, so looks like we will have barbie inspectors strolling our streets. we have just had no smoking inspectors employed.

Mac

Hope Jasmine is ok, must be growing, all the best to you all, may see you soon

Yep I know a UK so called barrow boy who was in next village but now in UK with his Thai wife: He tried two businesses they both folded.

Your right most here think itsa easy to start a business, believe me I have had all the thoughts but knocked them on the head, now I am going to make the bore deeper and maybe bigger and clean it up build a fishing shelter, now thats a hobby.

I had two jobs in the UK after leaving the ole Bill, was working harder, whats the point, my ole Mum in the UK said today your better off where you are the UK is in a mess, bless her at 86.

Gloria is doing well thanks.

Hope wecan get together when you in LOS, there wont be any 10-00 on my BBQ :o

Regards to you and your wife

Tend to agree somewhat Mac. But if the opening day / night is anything to go by, he should do well.

At the height of activities last night there would have been at least 60+ people in the bar :o Mainly farang, but a good spread of Thais as well. The beer was cold and the food good.

This guy has ran bars before and knows the ropes for sure. He has re located to Buriram from Bangkok so his wife can be closer to her family and children.

I also wish him luck, and intend to make it a regular stopping place for a quite beer, friendly banter and a good feed.

Bussines in Thailand is big dream which everybody wants but I think it could be good idea to left just be a dream ! Maybe Thai people can earn living with that way but farang can drink and eat the profits easily. Farangs use much more money than thai people. Bussiness needs money also in the Thailand but the profits are not so high. Many farangs also pay too much for their bussines ... it takes long time to get money back with bussines. No reason to put money to the bussines which need money from outside all the time.

One good point ! if want to give work for lady then it could be good idea ... then lady can work and earn "own" money ... maybe it could be frustrating but it is still own money and it also give security for lady if farang is in the abroad. Dont have to be depend on farang if something bad happend. Maybe one big investment also help in the long run ! Dont have to give so much money every month :o

But if farang want to live with bussines then it have to be very good bussines...everybody can calculate how much spend money in the thailand !!!

I think restaurang where farangs drink and eat is good bussines ... everything where farangs bring money ... they use money different way\amount than thai people.

Good luck for everybody who have bussines or plan to start bussines in Thailand !

No I think they might be thinking of the 35 farang bars/restaurants that have failed in the ten years that the Farang Connection has been open. Most of them fell to the same ploy. After six or seven months they had not made a million, so they closed. We have been steady, and after four hard years, we are just starting to make a good earning. By the way Toddy, a customer was asking after you at the week-end, and I said you haven't posted for a long time. I can change that now. Cheers.

Hi All

I think the Boss Lady might be onto something when she calls me a stoopid farang!! :D I am obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer :o As today I spent 45minutes trying to find the new eatery without success!

Despite asking several Thais who all sent me off in different directions, called at the police station and had a diagram drawn for me, criss-crossed the area several times , asked a couple of farangs all to know avail. :D

Admittedly I was looking for the Caltex service station rather than the restaurant but in the end I resorted to Book & Bed before I passed out with hunger!

Would someone therefore please explain where it is in relation to say the post office or the police station both of which I passed many times in my wanderings.

After all a restaurant you cannot find does not bode well for business.

Hi Mac

Thanks for input, I'll put on my thinking head for next trip to Buriram and hopefully with your instructions will sail through to the Tavern!

Unfortunately my 6 months in LOS is up soon and I have to return to UK for summer , however with time off for good behaviour should be back October time, but will visit Tavern before I go.

Thanks again

Hi TBWG

Easy for you coming from Satuk. Come into town via the dangerous V intersection. Veer right there, not left that will take you to the Thepnakorn Hotel. Keep going straight for about 1 klm and the road goes around to the right and then to the left and passes over a railway crossing. There is a road to the right just after the crossing, don't turn, go straight ahead. On your left is a Wat and another road off to the right, don't take that one either. You will see on your right hand side the new lake / exerscise construction. Take the next turn to your right and you will be on the road to Rons Tavern Bar. With a shitload of new shophouses on your left and a big hole (lake development) on your right, keep going for about 250 mtrs. The Caltex servo will be on your left, and Rons place directly opposite on the right. Look for the double tinted doors / Thai flags / sandwich board advertising outside. Hard to miss actually :o

Normally quite during the day, and the food menu at this stage is not extensive, but he is certainly attracting quite a few regulars :bah: He has a lot of good ideas for the near future, but is prepared to do things slowly and sees what happens.

A great place on a hot day with the the aircon and laid back atmosphere :D

By the way, we will be in Huriat on Saturday (after the new Ford showroom opening) for a big fire, as my wife calls the cremations here :o

Its at the Temple just outside of the western side of town, turn left after the rice paddy on the right and follow that road through to the x road that leads to the dam, when you see the wire fence on the left turn right and go straight and then................... :D:bah::bah:

No dramas if you get lost Mac, I'll see you at Rons place or Martins soon :o

Hi All

Well thanks to all the directions supplied by members I finally located "The Tavern"

Oh Dear ..........What a disappointment, I approached the rather shabby looking sliding doors adorned with a sign saying opening hours 8.30a.m 1.00a.m only to find them locked! A Thai eventually came to the door and informed me "all sleeping" and that they were closed despite the fact that it was 11.30a.m. :o

Well revert to Plan B ... off to Book & Bed, greeted by a smiling Thai who opened the door for me and welcomed me into a well appointed air conditioned restaurant, service was excellent, food well presented, tasty and reasonably priced. When I finally left the place was heaving with farangs & thai's.

Now I do not deliberately set out to criticize someones best efforts but unless they are aware of there shortcomings then they can't do anything about it and I wish them every success, but currently they fall well short of the competition. :D

Next time I venture into Buriram I know where I will be eating, what would you do?
