Hi

i need to renew my US passport soon. On the return address, can I write it in Thai? I worry if I write the address in English, the post office will have trouble finding it. Also will they usually call me when they arrive or just leave it at the front desk?

Thanks in advanced

If an item non-deliverable do they normally (1) return to sender or (2) leave at nearest local post office or (3) try again

Two and 3. Number one only if it cannot be delivered.

When they attempt a delivery they put a card in the mailbox telling you where to pick it up and a number to call to do another delivery attempt.

They will try and call when the try to deliver it as well.

Are you applying in person or by mail at the embassy in Bangkok. Info here: https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/adult-passport-renew/

I don't think you can enter Thai when completing the DS-82 form.

If applying in person you may be able to put your address on the return envelope for it to be mailed to you.

Thai Post requires a signature when it is delivered. They will not leave it without that.

I planned to apply by mail since the process time is the same. So my return address must be in English?

i have order packages before and they have trouble finding my address when I input in English. So I am worry my passport won’t able to be delivered to me

To be safe, for something as important as my passport and since it only needs to be renewed once every 10 years, I would ask them to hold it at the Embassy for pick-up rather than trust it with Thai Post.

They can hold it for me to pick at the Embassy?

As I wrote before you could apply in person and then have it mailed to you.

When you apply in person you buy the return envelope at a Thai Post kiosk located within the consular section. You could put your address in Thai on it.

Your cannot pick it up yourself unless you have a valid reason for needing your new passport urgently.

I tried that in December,  they will only mail it back. You get a tracking number. Mine was left at the condo office.

The underlying question is...how reliable is the Thai Post with delivering letters/parcels addressed in English?

Anyone have any knowledge/experience of that???

I have not ahad any problem receiving my mail addressed to me in English.

The important this is that the translation to English is correct. The house number is important since the number is the village number and the number of the house in it. For example this simple number 6/4 means village 6 and house number 4.

Just had a US passport delivered to me last week.

No problem with address in English.

I wasn't asked to sign for it, nor is my phone number on the envelope, so don't know how they could have called me.

I have had a few letters in English, safely delivered to my condo in Pattaya, no problems at all. But I would be concerned about sending passport this way???

It is sent by express mail service which means it tracked ever time it is moved. Never a problem with EMS deliveries.

FYI Thai passports are applied for in person and then when completed are sent by EMS from Bangkok.

Yes they should do all of above, but in my experience they don't. you should be able to get a tracking number and it will tell you when it's arrived at your P.O. after 24hrs go collect it. I found my new PP (not US) sitting in the PO back room on a table in a far corner, while they were still trying to find it in their tracking system. just saying.

Same here. They left it at the condo office.

They only ask for the name of the person now and enter it in the records that they now have on their phone. Before that had you sign on a list of deliveries they were making.

The phone number would be on the slip that was completed and be in their records they can see on their phone.
