A number of Songkran events due to be held on Khao San Road have been cancelled.

However, the famous water fight for which the backpacker hub is famous for at Thai New year, may still take place.

No official stages will be set up, unlike in previous years, and there will be no Songkran parade. A merit making celebration will still go ahead as planned.

Officials from the Khao San Road Traders Association said that organizer will not bother submitting plans for approval, as the events are likely to be approved anyway.

But the water fights can not be stopped.

If people start splashing water, there is little anyone can do to stop it, officials said.

The cancellation of official Songkran events on Khao San Road follow the cancellation of other Songkran celebrations nationwide, including in Pattaya, Khon Kaen and Buriram.

Complete garbage, the government can stop it under health laws if they so wished.

Anyone splashing water on anyone else could be deemed to be aiding in the spread of the virus!!

I just noticed, in Japan the famous "Sumo" wrestling that takes place on alternate months, 6 tournaments each year with 15 days each tournament, have "March" for the first time in over 1,000 years of history banned spectators from attending.. that's a huge loss of revenue..   but health seems to take precedence over profit!

Italy have just announced a nationwide lock down, while in LOS

Thailands attitude.. ohhh we can't stop peoples fun.

Agree,Italy has a nation wide lock down,no football,no gyms open weddings ,funearals everything closed, turn of the water simple, especially as we are in the worst drought in 40 years. Were i live the Ampur has cancelled all activities have closed bars[the few there are] even my mate may have too close his water park, a big blow for him as this is his most profitable time of year.

The difference is that they say that it is cancelled and not banned.  Same thing in Chiang Mai.  Consequently people will just go ahead and do it anyway.

The article does make sense.   It's just that it's Thaivisa members' joy to deliberately misinterpret so many things simply in order to mock Thais.

The OP very clearly stated that the water fights can go ahead.  It's the official organised events that have been cancelled.
