Rural road dept to hire over 8,000 workers in the provinces

The Department of Rural Roads will employ over 8,000 people for the construction and repairs of roads nationwide, aimed at boosting income of the locals and stimulate the provincial economy.

 

The move aligns with a policy of the Government and the Ministry of Transport to expand income to areas nationwide.

 

The Department's Director-General Pathom Chaloeywares said employment would break into two categories, as follows:

 

1. Maintenance work on roads and offices: repairing holes, mowing grass, cleaning waterways, improving traffic equipment, administration, procurement, and engineering

“This work covers 76 provinces nationwide with a total of 3,336 routes, or 48,597.753 kilometres,” Pathom said. “The department expected to employ 7,230 workers nationwide, creating value for domestic employment throughout the fiscal year 2020 of approximately Bt771.463 million”.

 

2. Construction work: construction and maintenance of asphalt or concrete roads, highways, closed reinforced concrete drainage structure and bridges, including renovation of community areas.

 

“The department expected to employ 944 workers nationwide, creating value for domestic employment throughout the fiscal year 2020 of approximately Bt37.009 million,” Pathom said.

 

He added that when combined, total employment would amount to 8,174 people with a budget of over Bt808.472 million.

 

“The department plans to employ workers nationwide to stimulate the economy and improve quality of life for rural people,” he said.

On paper it sounds good, but how much of the allocated funds will  be side-tracked for more important urgent personal benefits?

Sounds good but will they be hiring Thais or Burmese and Cambodians as they seem to do for every construction project these days? Bangkok is being built by foreigners from neighboring countries, rather than Thais.

Obvious who will be doing the work.

 

Thais, by and large, think this type of work is beneath them, (unless it is the hard working Isaarn women) but they don't come up with any alternatives that they would be happy doing work wise!

Have you asked yourself why Burmese and Cambodian workers?

10,000 tour guides are wanting work aren't they ? Well problem solved...

Just hope they have finished the roadworks before they find another better paying job or do what Thais do, just leave the site one day without any warning. Every time they dig a hole open there's a high chance of it becoming a UNESCO heritage site in the next 500 years.
