I find it truly bizarre that no country has put in special exemption status as of yet

After all many countries are now going into lockdown

Many more are asking new arrivals to self isolate for a 14 day period

Im currently in Malaysia and want an extension my safest option is a bus ride to Singapore and hopefully just do a walk around visa run in -out not go into Singapore proper.

Usually I am in CM at this time been putting it of due to COVID and Air Quality conveniently buried due to the Virus but at least you get to wear a mask see the 'Dirty Farang' minister didnt say anything about that of course his comments are out of place but the low slung vest crowd of young backpackers are the unwashed

Anyway back on track why is there no COVID-19 Visa extension many folk dont want to travel put them self at risk Chiangy Airport was a high risk zone
BKK has proven a risk zone the the staff count at three infected

There must be many Chinese who cannot get home.

& Frankly its safer in the warm climates as long as you avoid the AC Hot spots

Plus tourism is down Teflon Thailand has hit a rough spot so if you have people in the country spending cash why not keep them there
If your just landing and self isolating for 14 days your not going to get many two week vacationers wanting to come.

Or is that to out of the box and common sense thinking for Thai Immigration or any countries immigration

What is "special exemption status"?

Are you asking about an extension to stay longer in Malaysia or Thailand?

Immigration here is already doing 30 day extensions for those that cannot travel to their home country or unable to get a new entry. It requires a letter from their embassy requesting it.

When I did my extension few weeks ago in Phuket, they told to all (mainland) Chinese to not apply and to not worry, because there will be no penalty if they overstay, officer clearly repeated this several times, only for mainland Chinese... All the rest of us had to apply for 30-days extension.

Is this some new requirement, or it's for an additional (2nd) extension?

For normal 30-days extension they only needed application and cash...

Thats interesting that they tell them not to worry instead of milking it for a fee
If they understand that is the case then i dont know why they dont introduce a new temp extension while virus is in the headlines

You wrote you were currently in Malaysia and mentioned doing a trip to Singapore for new entry.

For here you could do a border hop for a new visa exempt entry it you qualify for one.

Hi Joe is this special requirement only for those who apply for 2nd extension?

My parents will apply (1st) 30-day extension next week, hope no bad surprises ????

BUT THAT is the whole point to avoid Border Trips Transport long journeys squeezed minivans cold AC coaches Airports etc
You have arrived in Thailand on your 60 day visa or METV had your first 30 day extension
most countries are going into lockdown

As someone stated Malaysia closing down dont think it would matter if you prove you've been in Thailand for 60 days

Only for the 2nd extension if needed.

Not all embassies are doing the letter if their citizens can just leave and re-enter to get new entry.

  • Thanks 1
  • 3 weeks later...

Ive received the visa extension letter from the UK embassy and will be going to immigration tomorrow, does anyone know if anything else is needed apart from passport/letter, like passport photos. Do we need to pay anything?

It depends upon the office you go to.

Some want a lot of proof of where you are staying including photos of it.

STM.2 form

They have two forms which you will get at the immigration office, one form which informs you about fines for overstay, and another form which informs you what happens if your application for an extension is denied. I don't know now which one is STM.2, but as you get both at the immigration office and just write your name on it and sign it it's not really relevant which form is which.

TM30 receipt

If you don't know what this is, just search it on Google, you will find many threads on Thaivisa about it.

So is all this extra proof only required for the second extension or now also for the first one?

Only for the 2nd one.

So far I have only seen reports of offices in the central region of the country asking for the photos and etc. But not in Bangkok that is under a different immigration division.

Does anyone know where the TM6 number is? Im looking at it now (slip in passport) and the only number i can see is directly under the barcode at the bottom which doesn't look right.
