Five military commanders and police chief reject pay as senators

Supreme Commander General Pornpipat said today that he and Defence Permanent Secretary General Nath Intharacharoen, Army Commander-in-chief General Apirat Kongsompong, Royal Thai Navy C-in-C Admiral Luechai Rootdit, Air Force C-in-C Air Chief Marshal Manit Wongwart and National Police Chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda had discussed their salaries and fringe benefits as senators and agreed not to accept them from now until their retirement on September 3rd, 2020.

The basic monthly salary of a senator is 71,230 baht, plus a monthly additional sum of 42,330 baht, totalling 113,560 baht.

General Pornpipat explained that they did not want the public to have animosity toward them for receiving salaries from two sources, namely their military or police posts and from the Senate, adding that their combined salaries and fringe benefits, totalling about six million baht, can be contributed to state coffers in light of the serious health threat posed by COVID-19.

Very noble of them. I doubt that their counterparts in the police will do the same and just make do with their salaries. How could they live on such a pittance ?

The trough will see they don't go hungry!

  • Popular Post

maybe they should also declare just how much money they have and were they got it

They can't find safes big enough anymore?

You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time...

All part of the damage control. The army and government are becoming increasingly unpopular by the day.

My oh my, wonders will never cease!  How noble art though....hang on a minute, this is Thailand!  There has to be an ulteria motive me thinks...  None of those jokers are any different to the rest of the Prayut crew.

True, but maybe they want to distance themselves and be around after the next "crew change" ????

Easier time finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I would guess most everyone can think that their money did not all come from legitimate trough channels.

One would gather that this amount of money is just a pittance of their nest.

What each ??

Hmm....yea.....sounds about right.  Those backhanders soon mount up.

What's brought this on have they suddenly developed a conscience? lol money for nothing.

Although it is more possible here where people are educated to remain fools !

Don't forget the five (5) "staff" positions for family. Very generous packages for them.

I'm sure these chaps will be returning their salaries to date back to the treasury, right?

Wise move on their part.  Were they appointed or elected?  If appointed, chances are, they will still incur wrath as tools of junta controlled Thailand.

It would be considered good manners regardless of such threats if appointed.

There is a bit of Trump in everyone.....Kudos

peanuts for them because they have more lucrative "incomes"

Silly me! I had just assumed that they would not be receiving salaries for both positions.

All of which begs the question: How could any military chief of staff or CinC (however designated) find the time to do BOTH jobs.

If they were even half serious ...

No restrictions on overseas transfers

So are they politicians or servicemen... okay okay I know it's all the same now.

Rhetorical question.

based on previous (historical) similar comments, one has to be skeptical about this.... if it sounds to good to be true, it isn't

Safes are full already and it's not from the Salary ????

no wonder, many people want to become politicians! how much is the monthly wage for a thai worker?

According to his Wiki page: As army chief, prior to his retirement at the end of September, the general (current Prime Minister) received a 1.4 million baht (US$43,000) annual salary.

Who needs a Senator's pay?
