Democratic White House contender Biden says he would pick a woman as vice president

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential contender Joe Biden, who had hinted he might choose a woman as his vice presidential running mate if he is picked as the party's nominee, committed to doing so during his debate with rival Bernie Sanders on Sunday.

"If I'm elected president, my Cabinet, my administration, will look like the country, and I commit that I will in fact appoint and pick a woman as vice president. There are a number of women who are qualified to be president tomorrow. I would pick a woman as my vice president," Biden said.

There were originally a record-breaking six women vying for the Democratic nomination to take on Republican President Donald Trump in November - U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand, along with U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard and Marianne Williamson.

Only Gabbard remains in the race, although she is polling below 5% nationally and was not eligible to participate in the debate.

Sanders said that "in all likelihood," he would choose a woman as his running mate, but did not make as firm a commitment.

"In all likelihood, I will. To me, it’s not just nominating a woman, it is making sure that we have a progressive woman, and there are progressive women out there. So my very strong tendency is to move in that direction," Sanders said.

Two women were previously nominated by the major parties for U.S. vice president - - Democrat Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 and Republican Sarah Palin in 2008. Both their tickets were defeated. Democrat Hillary Clinton, the first woman nominated for president by a major party, lost to Trump in 2016.

I am so out of touch with the modern world. But, surely excluding all men for the post of VP just because they are men, IS sexism?? If Biden had said he only would pick a man for VP would that be cool

I think picking a woman will get him in as pres. Debates wont matter so much as don has proven he is a compulsive liar.

A bucket of water should dump on him with every lie, he would end up in an olympic pool.

Dons only option is to make up stories on joe.

As long as he’s not surrounding himself with criminals like the failing Chaos Family, he may even pick a ladyboy.

The top of the ticket is a man, so not sure what you two are whining about.  But I'm sure you would attack anyone Biden picked, whether man, woman, or trans.  It goes to your desperation as you know Trump's days are numbered.

Agree with the choice no such much that Trump's days are numbered. Modern politics is about picking the person who will get you the vote numbers to get over the line. A wimmin would assist with taking the "pussy grabbing" vote off the Neanderthal. Hopefully enough to win the Senate at the least.

Picking a woman as VP makes sense politically and has (of course) nothing to do with sexism but electability.

Yes, poor Biden is up against a stable genius. No chance, no chance at all!

Good ole Joe...he knows how to sniff out a good political opportunity.

In fact he's down for anything that requires sniffing.

How about selecting the best qualified person for that job? Maybe someone who is competent and stays cool under pressure.

If that someone is a woman, fine. And if not that is also fine. The best qualified person should get that job.

I would rather a president who grabs every issue by the horns

instead of sniffing little kids and exhibiting signs of advanced brain

damage.

Every issue by the horns? Really? The single most important issue for voters now (or at least before Trump's corona virus debacle) was health care".

Here's the white house transcript that includes his answer on health care. It's incoherent:

How original... The left, built on external appearance discrimination says only a woman can be VP...

And as always, if you disagree you are a racist, misogynistic, etc etc etc.

What a load of desperate Clowns.

The Democrats could pick Mother Teresa and still have zero chance of winning back the White House.

And to back up your claims as usual you offer no evidence. None. Zero, Nada. Zip. You claimed Trump grabs every issue by the horns. I pointed out that when it comes to healthcare, he's done no such things. What's incoherent about that? You might want to look up the meaning of that word.

He hasnt grabbed hilary and locked her up.

He hasnt grabbed the money from mexico from the wall.

But he has grabbed over the market rent for the secret service at his golf resorts and he has grabbed pussy.

What a load of desperate Clowns.

Perhaps some therapy is needed to cure those conspiracy theory tendencies.

We already knew he was going to pick a woman.

But which one?

That's a juicy question.

It is to laugh.

Trump’s H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic Spin

On April 15, 2009, the first infection was identified in California, according to the CDC, and less than two weeks later, on April 26, 2009, the Obama administration declared a public health emergency.

The same day — April 26 — the CDC began releasing antiviral drugs to treat the H1N1 flu, and two days later, the FDA approved a new CDC test for the disease, according to a CDC timeline on the pandemic.

On April 30, 2009, two days after the public health emergency declaration, Obama formally asked Congress for $1.5 billion to fight the outbreak, and later asked for nearly $9 billion, according a September 2009 Congressional Research Service report

What don't you get about that fact the the Trump administration actually turned down an offer of ready-to-go tests from the WHO? And to this day refuses to specify who was responsible for this refusal.
