Thai central bank says will monitor impact of Fed's moves

A man stands in front of the empty shelves of toilet paper at a supermarket, after the coronavirus outbreak in Bangkok, Thailand March 15, 2020.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's central bank said on Monday it would monitor the impact of the U.S. Federal Reserve's moves on market participants' confidence.

The central bank's next policy review is on March 25, as scheduled, it said it a text message to reporters.

It is expected to further cut the benchmark interest rate <THCBIR=ECI>, currently at a record low of 1.00%.

The Fed slashed interest rates to near zero, pledging hundreds of billions of dollars in asset purchases and back stopping foreign authorities with the offer of cheap dollar financing to cushion the economic impact from the coronavirus pandemic.

'will monitor' - ha ha ha!

I remember the last few press releases from the BOT always said they were 'very worried' about the Baht's appreciation against the US dollar and would take measures to bring it down.

Despite their 'worrying', nothing was done to reduce the strength of the Baht, so my impression of 'monitoring' is someone sleeping at their desk every working day.

Why is toilet paper sold out?

Thais use very little toilet toilet paper. That's not meant to be said in a bad way. I mean they use bum washers and a little toilet paper to dry the water.

Want to know the fallout from the Fed? Look at today's futures in the US. The worldwide depression has started. And that means the demand for Thai exports to the US and other countries is going to evaporate. You are in a heap of trouble, Mr. Thai Central Bank.

Because the picture fits the propaganda meme of a run on toilet paper.

Change monitor to mirror, or to mimic, ie, follow marching orders.

the mismanaged currency wreaked havoc on exports and tourism , not to mention poor expats. Now the virus has dug the boot in.
