Good move. We are not being told how many people allegedly dying from the corona virus would have died anyway from other ailments. This is a media-led panic which is destryoying peoples' livelyhoods all over the world.

Trying to strike a balance between protecting people from the virus while not devastating their lives with unmanageable financial burdens as a result of the general shutdown...a daunting task.

It certainly is. It does help to consider both the financial burden and the protection of people without bringing self image into the equation.   Well let's look at the facts and then deci

We are not being told because the idiots don't know, the administration closed down the part of the NSC that kept those figures.

In case you didn't realize it if it were not for the media, we would know absolutely less than we do know now

Once the body bags start piling up you will also blame the media instead of those who's incompetence led to the many deaths to come

Let's reopen "the economy" to ensure the maximum amount of boomers die off and SS becomes solvent again

Tough job.  He will catch flack from the same hateful people who have maligned his Presidency...regardless of what direction he takes.

Listen to the doctors, spend some more money on healthcare and social security and less on the army. It ain't rocket science.

Leave it to the rabid leftist to exist in the fantasy world that they can read minds and hearts of people.

What a load of nonsense.

Funny that you’re thinking you can read my mind ... leftist? If you knew me you’d know how dumb that comment was.

You don’t have to be able to read Trump’s heart and mind, just watch his speeches ... he tells you who and what he is.

Thing is.

Trump and the Federal Government don't really have much control on what State Governors and City Mayors do with regard to their local communities.

I think a lot of Europeans don't quite understand, that unlike their countries, power is ceded to the Federal Government, not the other way round.

So if the State decides to lock everything down, there is precious little of Trump huffing, puffing and tweeting that can change that.

Gavin Newsom locking down California, or indeed my local Mayor in South Dakota closing non essential business' for what they consider the greater public health issue, takes precedent over anything the Fed's might say

Trump could withhold federal funding to states that do not comply

No, the part of the agency was moved to another part of the nsc. Please don't post this lie

Correction, your opinion tells you who he is. But you keep up the outrage.

A few 1000 ... hahah . Forget about it . Italy already got 6000 deaths . Italy being a tiny bit smaller then US . Also , Italy and all others are trying to slow the spread so they can cope . Somewhere else on the forum i already send the picture of the hospital in Spain ( official footage ) , where people lie on the floor in the hallway . Beds finished ... . Brace yourself for more then a few 1000 .

Couldn’t agree more. The Spanish flu killed 50 to 100 million people. That’s the kind of numbers you have to be thinking about. Probably a lot more, in fact, because the world population grew from 1,5 billion in 1918 to over 7 billion now. So think about that ......

The response to a CV-19-like event should have been defined decades ago. The president should only have to be mouthing existing protocols. Oh, but those lifer government positions are just payback positions. No responsibility there.

Nor responsibility for your savior Obama not replenishing those N95 masks following the last virus.

At least some people are trying instead of critiquing every breath someone takes and doing nothing to help.

Happy news...CNN and MSNBC have stopped airing Trumps press briefings on China Virus.

Happy because this means there is no reason to let their <deleted> journos in the room any more.

Sad because many Americans will miss the information and updates the briefing provides.

Guess they couldn't stand that his approval ratings on handling the crisis keep going up

due to the briefings.

So true.

They will still continue with the anti-Trump stories and distortions - which the 'coverted' all lap up and believe, and then put forward as 'facts' on forums like this.

I wonder if any of them on this forum realise that in 2009 under Obama the Swine Flu (H1N1) in USA infected 60.8 million people, put 274,000 under hospitalizations, and caused 12,469 deaths.  I wonder if any of them (not the millenials/antifa in Mum's basement) remeber back then, because if they do then they will realise (maybe) that there was no worldwide panic/closure/economic collapse - and no media outrage against Obama for not stopping it quicker etc etc etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic_in_the_United_States

So far the Trump Admin is doing a much better job than Obama's ever did.

That's what Presidents/PM's are for ,,,,,,,,Bowling balls.

The article is very interesting in that this is a major quandary for just about any world leader.

Total lockdown can only last for so long as looting, robberies, suicides & general anarchy would

result. A strong Police force would come under as much pressure as the health systems.

In Thailand the infighting between the Govt & Police which has made the "force" pretty unresponsive since overthrow of elected Govt & % of uneducated people would exacerbate

any long term violence as they get hungry, thirsty & restless.

I do not have the answer as if I did would not be sitting here writing this but would be sharing my ideas to the authorities.

Interested to hear comments on above

Simple math will put your post in perspective:

12,468 deaths divided by 60.8 million infected people gives a mortality rate of 0.02%.  That's one fifth the mortality rate of a typical flu, and about one fiftieth of the estimated mortality of corona.

Covid-19 is already overwhelming hospitals and health care workers in many parts of the world.  That's why drastic actions to slow the rate of infection are required.

Obama wasn't criticized because he made quick and relevant decisions and did not talk B.S. during more than one month like Trump did.

First case of H1N1 identified 15 April 2009, public health emergency declared 26 April, funds request 2 days later, first test shipment May 1, clinical vaccine trial July 22.

Is this what you are referring to?

"An MSNBC network spokesperson said the network aired the briefing for more than an hour before cutting away "because the information no longer appeared to be valuable to the important ongoing discussion around public health.""

"Several people have criticized the administration’s daily coronavirus briefings for allegedly spreading misinformation and urged news networks not to show them live."   https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/489150-white-house-hits-cnn-msnbc-for-cutting-away-from-coronavirus-briefing

Many Americans will be very grateful that they will not be hearing those misinformation from Trump which can meant saving their lives. Feel sorry for the deceased Arizona man and his wife who is in critical condition after ingesting chloroquine phosphate which was named by Trump as treatment for CD19.

Hong Kong thought it had things under control but it has come back again.

Taiwan and South Korea are not finished with it yet but one must congratulate South Korea for its quick testing of large numbers they have slowed it for sure.

Italy is taking strong measures and still can't control it.

Efforts need to be spent on:

1) isolate and monitor the elderly and those with pre existing conditions

2) get drugs to people who need it

3) try to rush a vaccine

Trump must think numerous other countries don't know what their doing. They have closed their  economies in their country and will keep review it until a clear picture is formed. Good or Bad!.They will then set new policies in place to control the current situation. If Trump opens to early i  can see many countries keeping a ban on travel to or from the USA, while they open up travel to other countries that have the virus under control. Trump is only the president of the USA and will have no control over the actions of other countries..He will be responsible for the death of thousands of Americans but will no doubt blame everyone else.

The working folks won't have a place to work if companies don't get aid. What do you propose? Anything constructive? You don't help Boeing Washington State loses a huge amount of tax revenue and jobs. Companies go under and nobody is left to pay taxes. It's funny that people think the government somehow makes money.

The USA is two checks away from bankruptcy if they just give individuals checks. What does Tug do? If you were to rule today what's your plan? Give checks to the working folks that no longer have any place to work and will not have a place to work anytime soon?

Also I love it when people use the word "folks" truly the term a politician calls people.

I do not understand why the CNN crowd cannot understand basic economics.

Couldn't agree with you more.

What benefits will China gain from lying. Do you think that the authority purposefully massage the recovery and risk a false security with their citizens to let down their guard and discard all the previous precautions. If the virus is not completely managed and controlled, a wrong message will resurrect the crisis all over again. Even WHO acknowledges the progress that China made.

Still recommending people over 65 possibly stay self quarantine.

Not sure it is the best decision.

So, I guess we will have to see what happens.
