Is the Mae Sot - Myawaddy border totally closed or is it still possible to do one of those 1 day border crossings?

I have recently been informed that it is not possible to get a visa to Myanmar at the moment.

Also wanted to check if those 1 day visa exemptions for 500 THB are still possible at Myawaddy or if they definitely cannot be done at the moment.

Thailand doesn't let foreigners in, so if you leave you are out for the foreseeable future. But as a foreigners it's also not possible to leave through any land border.

You cannot travel to Myanmar without a visa and no visas are being issued.

MYANMAR - published 24.03.2020
1. All visa issuances are suspended until 30 April 2020.

They shut down the land border crossings before the above went into force. Border passes went first.

Hate to correct you but I left through Mae Sot into Myawaddy overland with an electronic visa and returned through Tachilek into Mae Sai back to Thailand.

Quite certainly not in the last 20 hours since this thread was created, because a few days ago they cancelled evisas for land borders.

My present passport is stucked at an Embassy in Bangkok for a third country visa; but I found a stamp in my old passport; see the lower right corner leaving Tak/entering Myawaddy on 2 December 2017.

I rechecked on the website where they usually accept visa applications. The momentary situation prevents any application and the only ports of entry at the moment for those holding such visas already is by air in Rangoon, Mandalay and Naypyitaw.

I would assume that, once the situation normalizes again, they will be back to "business as usual" ????

For the time being it might be impossible to enter Burma alltogether - unless you hold a valid visa already.

Correct, last time was possibly six months ago ????

We are talking current day requirements/restrictions.

If you can enter, you as a foreigner will now ( as of today) be required, in addition to a vivid health certificate to spend 14 days in an isolation centre. Myanmar nationals 14 days likewise.

Forget Myanmar for a while.

The borders have all been closed as of midnight last night the 26th.  The only way into Thailand is if you are a Thai National with the proper paperwork, a Diplomat, a Pilot, or on a WP.  No other Visa types being let in even with COVID-19 test documentation and the 100,00 USD HI.  If you left before the Borders were shut and you do not meet the requirements in the Governments Emergency Decree, then unfortunately you can not get here from there......

Read the above notice as the thread appears to be about entering Myanmar for whatever reason.

It does not matter as of last Night the borders are sealed and you can not come back in even if you managed to get out.....

Read the article posted under "All doors closed to Foreigners" in the paper that can not be named for all the facts.

Work permit holders can get in.

Love that Swiss passport.

Are you a permanent resident? Otherwise there would be a 'permitted until' date on your entry stamps. Can see you took the ferry to Paksan and left via FB1 (Vientiane-Nong Khai). Did you go with your own car or by bus?

Speaking of Myanmar...the day pass granted at Myawaddy looks different - it's a black stamp and you get only one day (as the name suggests). It costs US$10 or 500 Baht. All the other borders offer a 2-week pass for the same US$10 with travel permitted further afield - at Phu Nam Ron/Htee Khee (Tiki), travel is permitted to Dawei and surrounding areas; at Mae Sai/Tachilek it's allowed up until Kengtung and sometimes Mong La (depending on the security situation), while at Ranong/Kawthoung, you're allowed to visit some islands in the vicinity and stay in town. Otherwise, you need an e-visa allowing you to visit the entire country except restricted areas. An embassy or consulate issued visa sticker is required for entry at Htee Khee, but not to exit, if you arrived from elsewhere.

Looking forward to the borders re-opening...right now all of this seems like a bad dream...

And just to clear up the ambiguity in that statement you made - no land entries are permitted to Myanmar for anyone for the time being. If entry is permitted to Myanmar, it's currently only allowed by air and ditto for departure, since all 6 land border crossings (2 with India and 4 with Thailand) are now closed.

Yes I am a PR since 1988 and you studied the page well. I travel everywhere with one of my cars hence the Paksan in/Thanaleng out. Said Myawaddy entry stamp allowed me to stay until 20 December, i.e. 18 days as that was the limitation of my temporary car license to Mandalay/Burma.

Also correct is that meanwhile all land borders are closed, the Nong Khai-Thanaleng Friendship bridge I opens only for medical emergencies and rare pre-approved hauling of cargoes - at least that's what I have been told (I live in Nong Khai).

Lets wait and see, these borders will reopen again and for the time being lets all enjoy some time at home.
