Senior Army officer transferred as inquiry begins into March 6 boxing event

The Army's welfare department chief has been shunted out as an inquiry begins into a boxing event on March 6 at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium that has led to scores of people getting infected with the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

 

The Royal Thai Army said on Friday (March 27) that Maj-General Rachit Arunrangsri, who was in charge of the stadium when the "Lumpinee Champion Kiatpetch" boxing match was organised, will work at Army headquarters.

 

On Thursday (March 26), the Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Army, Apirat Kongsompong, had tasked General Ayuth Sriviset, head of the Army Personnel Department, to form a committee to investigate the holding of the boxing event that has been blamed for aggravating the Covid-19

situation in the country.

 

According to the Army’s regulations, the key person involved in running the stadium must move to the headquarters in order to pave the way for the committee to investigate the case.

 

Rachit is being treated at Phramongkutklao Hospital, after he was infected with Covid-19.

 

The holding of the event could be deemed a violation of a government diktat, after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, on March 3, ordered all public gathering locations such as sports stadiums to be closed.

 

The private sector was allowed to hold a public gathering if it strictly followed the Public Health Ministry guidelines while the authorities of the public sector were ordered to consider the appropriateness of the gathering before granting permission.

If they're gonna play the "blame-game", then the problem is not solved with putting a Covid sick Maj-General Rachit Arunrangsri into an inactive position.

Then they should continue all the way up to Anutin "Ai Farang", and then maybe they can turn the tide.

Whatever the outcome of the inquiry, all profits, including the prize money from this event should be forfeit and the money used in the ongoing fight against the virus.

 

Interesting side note: The dictionary definition of dicktat is: an order or decree imposed by someone in power without popular consent.

 

Find a fall guy and transfer him to an inactive post - no matter how many deaths have resulted - truly nauseating. Be careful karma doesn't kick in and covid-19 also gets transferred to army HQ.

Seems like a "transfer" is the most severe punishment in the Thai Army

In reality, Prayuth should be forced to resign over this. This was the beginning of the real spread of the virus here. Of course we all know those at the top will never take responsibility for any problems they cause, will never be forced to take responsibility, nor will they own up to any tragedies that happen under their watch. So, Gen. Ayuth will be transferred at full salary, and all will be forgotten. And if the public continues to make a stink about this, which is fully warranted, they will allow this lower ranked general, to fall on his sword, but probably with a full pension. 

 

The army here, is accountable to nobody. This is the problem. This is only part of the reason why the youth need to rise up, and get rid of these hapless incompetents.

Yes.... firstly, This is Thailand..... The 'best' thinking material....

Secondly since Thailand actually 'is the Army'.... and HE is a general (aren't they all???) in the 'Thai Gov't'.... What can we expect???  Another sweeping 'under the carpet' move is in order.... and they are experts at that,,,

And being an Army General you can expect them to spend MORE TAXPAYER'S BAHT to save his life in the hospital than they spend on the 'average' Thai....

The second one looks most likely Must be awfully full these inactive posts by now? If i was in the army or cops i would do something bad to get transferred to these inactive posts. Feet up on desk get paid for nothing lol Happy days

I am curious, I have seen the term "inactive post" a milion times, but am unsure about the official meaning.

Does it mean, stay home get paid?

Come to work (anywhere within the public service, get paid and sit in a corner reflecting on your poor behaviour/decision making?

You are 'VERY CLOSE' to the right answer

In Australia it is used to force people to eventually resign. Come to work as usual, sit in an office by yourself doing nothing with zero contact with other people whilst every move you make is scrutinised and any infringement reported. Form of legalised torture until you break down and resign, or worse.

In Thailand it probably means no access to brown envelopes or other forms of corruption which might impact your income severely.

Underlying story: Thai military starting to eat their own.

 

Either another power-struggle going on as clicques position to consolidate more power; or Thai military getting real nervous about losing control as they mis-manage covid-19 pandemic.

 

Probably a bit of both.

Most countries have armies-some armies have countries.

Still waiting for the Masks Mafioso to be tried for that treasonous act. Especially in light of latest Health Minister comments about medical staff not taking care. Would appear some rogue officials actively working against health interests of the nation.

As with the Police and in fact most Thai government agencies, transfer to an "inactive post" removes you grom the distribution list for the proceeds of the various "informal financial and business arrangements" controlled by your department. In his job I should imagine there are many!
