uncle_tom Posted June 9, 2004 Share Posted June 9, 2004 As a writer planning to spend several months of next winter in Thailand to work on my next book, I'm planning to rent a modest apartment, probably in Hua Hin. On previous, shorter visits to the kingdom, I've stayed in hotels and enjoyed the bar scene. For this trip I will need a maid. My understanding is that maids are "good" girls, and out of reach from a carnal standpoint. I also reckon that trying to engage a bar girl as a maid with "extras" is likely to be unsatisfactory. Is there a half way house that I could tap into? A live-in maid who is outwardly a "good" girl, but doesn't need a bed of her own... My guess is that there must be plenty of girls who wouldn't drop to the level of working the bars, but would appreciate an enhanced income. Question is, how do I find one? The situation is the following: There is no rental-fee, and no prostitution. Yes, Islam is reducing all kind of expenses for women, as Islam requires obligatory modest dressing for women and a modest lifestyle. - It is obligatory for the wife to accept sexual relationship with the husband, she cannot refuse, and no married Muslim woman can call herself to be a victim of rape of her own husband .... She also has to keep the house clean.... A Muslim man is good protected against exploition by the woman. 2- And why marriage, this could be worked out in an employment contract? Some Islamic marriages are very short-term - Muslims call that 'a marriage for rent' as a joke. Divorce is easy in Islam, if the man does not want to live together with the woman anymore - it is permitted to divorce, and not a kind of moral obligation like in the Catholic Church. You might marry and divorce more than one woman (up to 4)....also moderate Moslem countries like Malaysia permit that. However all wives must agree and know each other. The man must be a Moslem, but the wives might be Christians or Jews, however pagan-woman (Buddhist, Hindu) are not allowed...they must convert to Islam first. This works better as you might think, my Moslem friend near Hadyai has 3 wives... They help each other a lot, are not jealous to each other, and if one woman does not like to go with him just now, the other wife will do that.... If the wife is not available (like serious ill, living abroad) - then you as man might have contact even with another woman - this is allowed for the man. Beauty of the woman is not important, she needs not to show her face to others, and she is obliged to cover her body-form and her hair. However the Muslim husband is permitted to use his wife - there is no rule about any clothings, when both are together....(in a closed room, so nobody can see them) the woman might be naked, there is no limit about how to touch her....... Many Malay Muslim men have two wives, one in Thailand, and one in Malaysia. Not unusual at all. I never heard about an Islamic divorce in a Buddhist Thai court. If you are a Muslim man and you marry only by Islamic customs, you need not register your marriage officially. My opinion: I know, Islam is a strange world of thinking (for me too) but many people (not only men, but also women) feel obviously comfortable with it. I think, this man posting as uncle_tom might embrace Islam as a solution for all of his personal problems.... As he is a writer, the study of Islam should be no problem for him. He must decide however by himself, what he really wants.
