Thailand reports two new coronavirus deaths, bringing total to nine

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's public health ministry said on Monday that two more people have died from the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to nine.

 

The two deaths included a 54-year-old Thai man in the southern province of Yala who had recently returned from Malaysia, and a 56-year-old Thai woman in Bangkok, said Anupong Sujariyakul, a senior official at the public health ministry's Department of Disease Control.

 

The two died on Sunday, he said.

 

Earlier on Monday, Thailand reported 136 new coronavirus cases, raising the total number of infections to 1,524.

 

Among 1,388 patients still hospitalized, 23 were in critical condition, Anupong said.

6,673 were in the pending results queue on 28th. If about 2000 of those test positive and CFR is something like 4%, that queue alone will yield 80 deaths. And that's just the official queue. Soon this will become the new normal and not news anymore.

They are taking this "mask thing" to the extreme.

Do you really have to wear the mask if you're teaching online classes? ????

Agreed. Just over one half % death rate with the rest of the world at 1%-4%. happy to live in this world class medical hub!.

roughly the same number of cases than :

Indonesia with 114 deaths

Philippines 71 deaths

 

But Malaysia 35 deaths

...and Russia 8

So go figure out.... Probably because Anutin is the best ! ????

 

What is sad is that this country reports Thai and farangs cases separately. I haven't seen that in any other countries. Sad meaning.

When the deaths from viral pneumonia are added in what would the total be?  Not seen any figures for this, has anyone?

Yes, he needs to wear a mask because he was teaching from a hospital yesterday, and the hospital requires everyone to wear a mask. I know this teacher. His baby had a scheduled checkup yesterday.

What would be interesting to know is if the deceased and critical cases have other pathologies than Covid-19 (which is almost certain, but the authorities are careful not to say).
Do not forget either that in Thailand there are very few elderly people;
the average life in this country is around 74 years, i.e. 11 years less than in Japan, 9 to 10 years less than in Italy ...

True, they are very careful not to not include underlying factors in their reporting. 

2 more deaths from virus. 62 more dead on the road. Thailand has 2 problems Not 1 But one of the problems they will never do anything about. Both in my mind are very serious problems

Still basically a nothing burger compared to road deaths, pedestrian deaths, pulmonary issues, cancer, and a myriad of other factors. An entire country in lockdown over 1500 cases and 9 deaths?

So let’s take a quick look at numbers in comparison of corona virus deaths.

• USA now has over 3000 corona deaths—and it’s just getting started there.  USA population: 350 million.

• Thailand has announced 9 deaths—and this is China’s favorite foreign vacationland.  Virus exposure for three months now, with a total Thai population of 70 million.

You decide who’s telling the truth...

It is not about truth. It is about heat. The ideal temperature range for this virus is 37 to 64 degrees F. The heat here is devastating the virus. At least the heat here is good for something. If this thing was going to blow up, it would have happened a month or two ago, when we had over a million Chinese tourists crowded into various areas, some of whom were from Hebei province.

Then explain why Florida, which has been averaging the mid 80's and up, to be exploding in cases.  The hospital my daughter works in as a surgical ICU nurse has just created 10 new negative pressure room's to keep up with the patients they have been receiving.

Up to mid 80's with night time temps in the 50's. Statewide, still fairly mild temperatures. And most communication of the disease is thought to be between family members, hanging out huddled together in air conditioned homes.

Jacksonville has been in the 80's, this week it will drop, but then starting next week it will go back up to the mid 80's and up.

Yes you. In Thailand the internet is like electricity. Different in Thailand.  Not like the rest of the world. ????

The deaths here are being under reported, if not then why would they have shut the entire country and provinces are closing down.   

Ill informed, ill equipped, and under qualified officials. Deliberate panic? The desire to regain utter control? There could be a dozen different motivations behind this inane reaction. Thailand is a nothing burger, with regard to Corona. This will peter out within a few weeks time, topping off at 5,000 cases, maybe.

There is some evidence that shows higher temperatures might limit the transmission rates but it's inconclusive and there's a suggestion that it may be influenced by heat and humidity.  I've not seen any scientific evidence that there is a provable ideal temperature but maybe you know better. 

I don't think the number of cases is relevant as that's influenced by the number of tests. Fewer tests fewer confined cases. The deaths however are encouragingly low, assuming of course those figures are correct.

There does not seem to be solid evidence yet. However the numbers suggest that temperatures make a big difference. 

 

An unpublished analysis comparing the weather in 500 locations around the world where there have been Covid-19 cases seems to suggest a link between the spread of the virus and temperature, wind speed and relative humidity. Another unpublished study has also shown higher temperatures are linked to lower incidence of Covid-19, but notes that temperature alone cannot account for the global variation in incidence.

Are you willing to bet YOUR life on that? I daresay the Thai (or any) government will do whatever they decide to do without being influenced by an elderly farang with an opinion on an internet forum. And rightly so.

Average lifespan in uk is 80. What's your point ?

It's nothing to do with who is telling the truth. It depends on the testing rate as well as the actual number of cases. Do you think Thailand is finding positive cases and not revealing them? Really? All over the world, the published rates are 10-20 times less than the actual rates, as not everyone with the case of the sniffles is being tested.
