Hua Hin: Foreigners go to Hua Hin Hospital on first day of Covid-19 testing

Most of the people being tested for Covid-19 at Hua Hin Hospital on the first day of testing were foreigners, said director Dr Niran Chantrakoon. 

 

That was good, said the director, as this was the riskiest group. 

 

He said there were ten people tested on the first day after they advertised testing at 3,500 to 5,000 baht. 

 

The variance in the price was not explained in the New TV article. They said the results were available the next day. 

 

No one has yet been found to have the virus. 

 

Six people who were treated with Covid-19 at the hospital have all gone home. 

 

There are plenty of beds available, said Dr Niran who added that his hospital would utilise testing facilities in Samut Songkhram if the numbers warranted it.

 

Tests are done by putting a swab up the nose and in the throat - it is uncomfortable but relatively painless. 

 

People with insurance can use that to pay for the tests.

No surprise there then.
If farangs have insurance then no issue, even those who don't it is not a king's ransome. For many Thais their incomes have collapsed, so spending THB 3500 on a test is not going to be a high priority.

No mention of the make and model of the test kit being used here either. With all the fuss about various test kits being sent back to China by various European nations for having low efficacy and accuracy, nobody has come up with the name of the gold standard make and model yet.

 

Paying 3500 to 5000 baht for a result that you were free of Covid-19 the day before? Looks like it's mostly the nice-but-dim foreigners that are buying it.

really, not the isolation runners who returned from infected countries. or to the north and north east from Bangkok

5000k two weeks salary for minimum wage Thai. No wonder the country only logs 100 cases per day. No doubt those are people so ill they prolly don't even need a test.

If you have no symptoms at all a test makes no sense as you can catch up the virus a day or couple of days later. If you feel any symptoms you should go, not only fever and throught , breezing problems might be a sign,  also check your smelling and tasting behaviour as this mostly come along at rhe very beginning of infection!

I read 4 out of 5 infected people show no symptoms.

If you have no symptoms then I would avoid being tested.

You could get dragged off to isolation, only to find you are not insured for a false alarm.

Get tested if you are experiencing any respiratory symptoms.

Some tests (anti-body tests) can confirm you have had it and are now recovered,

Given the number of Thai's decamping back to the homeland from known hotspots then legging it rather than do the quarantine it could well it's the Johnny ferrangs who are the ones at risk from the little ghosts not t'other way about ..

Perhaps already stated, but please, do NOT bother getting tested unless you have symptoms (of COVID-19).

 

Seriously, if you go and test negative, whoop tee do! You could contract the virus during testing (from some other patient), and will not test positive until 14 days later... or perhaps never.

Hi friends, if I will visit BKK for 1-2 days on the local bus from Hua Hin...on my return to Hua Hin, will I have 14 days of homestay or will need to visit HH hospital, or what? Who has the experience of it? Thank You!!

Unsure, but of the 3009 confirmed cases in Thailand, only 360 are foreigners and the age group with the highest occurrence rate is 21-30 year olds.  So, perhaps just another  uninformed Thai official spreading misinformation.
