Popular Post Jonathan Fairfield
PM warns ignoring safety measures will only delay return to normal life Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha visited state quarantine locations and checkpoints to evaluate the situation during Songkran festival. The premier attended a briefing in Government House and was informed about improvement in containing Covid-19. He asked people to not celebrate Songkran festival as usual and expressed his gratitude to the public and the officials for collaboration during the Covid-19 outbreak. He was also informed about errors in the working process and ordered immediate improvements. “It would be harder to return to our previous way of life if we do not help each other and don't follow the government’s measures. Every single one of our officers is exhausted but has not given up saving people’s lives,” Prayut said. He urged everyone to continue living under the strict measures for the sake of public health. What on earth does this mean? I haven't seen any Army, Police, or Government Officers even remotely "saving people's lives". If he means hospital staff, then say so, as, like all of those working in healthcare, they are doing a great job, but on a very reduced scale compared with most other countries! 25 1

Maybe staff at immigration that has to work 12-16 hours a day, and constantly being verbally abused by whining foreigners. Foreigners venting their anger about laws/rules that the poor immigration staff had nothing to do with. Not everybody is a slacker in Thailand. 18 1 4 2

Popular Post connda
They destroyed "normal" so there is no going back. What will be spun as "normal" will be a version of neo-feudalism that will flourish in the detritus of economic ruin that global leaders have foisted upon their countries. Thailand? Back to third-world status, although the ruling elite will tell the world that everything is roses. And for them it will be; for average citizens...back to struggling with less then they had before, with the exception of debt - they'll collectively have much, much, much more debt. Debt slavery will be the "New Norm." 11 2

I believe many other normal things were already destroyed and what was normal to all of us, was actually normal quite a while ago, or I might just be a tad in the bottle with my way of thinking tonight.

To stop any mass uprisings expect to see: Universal basic income for the poor (just enough to keep the stupid people quiet) Digital currency will replace dirty paper money (completely traceable, they will tell you how to spend your UBI and they will reduce it based on your credit score and if you spend it on stuff they don't like) Facial recognition everywhere (they will know where you are and what you are doing all the time) Credit scoring based on compliance (negative posts on social media, questioning politicians' decisions etc. will lower your score...) Funnily enough, China is leading the way with a lot of this... 7 1

I'm not referring to the officers sitting in the airport - but the one's sitting in Chaeng Watthana in Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya etc. They are the ones working overtime - taking lot's of abuse. 2 1

Stargeezr
Interest rates have been low in Canada, USA for 5 years and so many say that they are 1 pay check from being broke. Well Thailand will not be the only country in the world with worse debt. Anybody with credit cards and too much debt are indeed in trouble. You should have been more careful, now look at your situation. Geezer Edited April 13, 2020 by Stargrazer9889 error

How about the thousand per day foreigners who were just as recent as Wednesday last week stampeding the Meaung Thong Thani immigration centre. They were sitting in 4 levels of the car park with visors on and didn’t let up until 8PM and then started again the next day at 6am. What I don’t understand is all the negativity about Thailand. If you don’t like it, no need to be here and if you really don’t like it, no need to even post or read this forum. Do you all really have that much time on your hands?? Popular Post AlaskaDave
I'm not in favor of the military running the country and shaping the rule of law to do their bidding but I'll say this for Prayut, he's more in line with medical experts in his assertions about Covid than the dumbass in charge of my country. Trump only cares about one thing, his own wealth and ratings. Also, I know I'm not alone in wondering just what the duties of a Royal Thai Police officer are. The only Police activity I've ever seen in my 10 years here is the hassling motorcycle riders for not wearing helmets and the occasional meth arrests on the TV news. I've never seen anyone pulled over for speeding, passing in a no-passing zone or for that matter driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Yet, the Police are highly paid relative to other Thais and AFAIK receive a decent retirement pension. Does anybody have any direct knowledge of this? What does a Thai police officer do all day?
