60 Day Family Extension on Non-O Visa

Featured Replies

Ok so I have a non-o dependent visa (half thai kid) issued middle August 2019. I'm due to bounce on 14th May, However, if the borders aren't open by then am I able to get the 60 days extension for visiting family? Which should hopefully tide me over till borders open again. The reason I ask is that I take care of my daughter (10 years old) and her mother and I never married, is parental rights needed for the 60 day extension or should I be ok? Cheers

You can apply for a 60 day extension to visit your child. There is no requirement for you to be the legal father of your child to apply for one.

I am sure that the ministerial order allowing people to stay in the country will be extended past the 30th of this month. Since you qualify for it you would not need a 60 day extension until the emergency situation ends.

I imagine the same applies for those with a marriage visa? I'm okay until the last week of May and I'm guessing that the emergency might be lifted at the end of next month. So if I were able to do a border hop, hopefully to Laos, at the beginning of June, those few days of overstay would be ignored?

Obviously there would be many hundreds, even thousands, whose permission to stay is automatically extended until the end of May. How long will they be given to 'regularise' their position, I wonder.

I am sure the emergency decree will phased out over a period of time. They cannot just end it in one day.

For the immigration side of things will depend upon border crossings being open, flight availabilities and etc.
