Thailand has preparations in place for 620 Thais being repatriated from overseas this week amid the global virus outbreak, Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Thursday (April 16).

The first batch of Thai returnees landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 11am on Thursday aboard Etihad flight EY9827 from the United Arab Emirates. Two and a half hours later, a second batch of 55 returnees stepped off flight Q2-9350 from the Maldives.

On Friday (April 17), 129 Thai exchange students from the United States will arrive aboard flight KE651 at 9.45pm, while 35 Thai workers on flight BS213 from Bangladesh will land at 1.40pm the same day.

On Saturday (April 18), a further 123 exchange students from the US will touch down at 9.45pm aboard flight KE651.

Another 160 overseas Thais will land at 11.15am aboard flight OAE6200.

The government has limited the number of arrivals by air to 200 passengers. All face mandatory state quarantine.

Taweesin said Thais still stranded in Saudi Arabia, Sweden and New Zealand would be provided with supplies of food and other necessities where needed by their local Thai embassies.
