Social security members affected by Covid-19 to be recompensed

Labour Minister Chatu Mongkol Sonakul said on Monday (April 20) that subscribers of the social security scheme who have lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 outbreak will be compensated under Section 33 of the Social Security Act.

 

“The Cabinet had on April 15 approved the proposal to compensate those who have been affected by Covid-19, regardless of whether or not their workplaces were ordered to be closed by the government,” he said. “I signed the ministerial regulations, which will be effective retroactively from March 1, with the first batch of compensation being ready for disbursement from April 20 onwards.”

 

Under Section 33 of the Social Security Act, people forced to stop working will be given 62 per cent of their daily wages based on a maximum monthly salary of Bt15,000 for a maximum of 90 days.

 

Social Security Office secretary-general Thossaphol Kritawong said those affected can apply for their compensation by filling out a form at www.sso.go.th/eform_news/, or filling a printed version out by hand and submitting it to their local social security office via mail or fax.

 

Employers also have to fill in the form to confirm that they have had to suspend their workers due to the Covid-19 crisis,” he said.

 

“The Social Security Office has earmarked Bt160 billion for this effort,” he added. “The money will be disbursed immediately after the verification process is complete.”

divided by 27,000 (3 months @ 9,000) per month, this will cover 5.9 million people. If properly executed, this will be one of the, if not the single, most effective government responses to this crisis. Here's hoping the vast majority of those folks can find jobs within 3 months time.

About 60% of our workforce has been stood down, by law we have to pay them 75% of their salary.

 

Can they now claim 62% as well?

Well now my GF who was denied should be able to get her money.  She is still paying the owner of the building where her shop and salon equipment is.  It is rough being an owner of a salon where you pay the rent, the business taxes and all that stuff as well for your employee's and yourself, and then get denied because your not Thai, even though you pay into the system.  Something wrong here with that.
