Cambodia will celebrate National Malaria Day on April 25 under the theme, “Zero malaria starts with me”, although there have been no reported deaths from malaria in the Kingdom since 2018.

A letter from Prime Minister Hun Sen, issued to mark the occasion, noted that the country plans to eradicate the disease by 2025.

Hun Sen said in the letter that the celebration is aligned with the evolution of Cambodia’s socio-economic situation, which has been extended to border and eco-tourism areas that are still at risk from the possibility of malaria-related deaths.

Good news indeed, and hopefully true. Not so in many countries however, and down in the deep dark jungles of New Guinea we were losing around 4 people per month on just one labour crew comprised of around just over a thousand workers ????

good luck with that. Mosquitoes don't have GPS or maps and they don't need passports, they can cross borders? Malaria will still kill upwards of 700,000 world wide this year alone.

I work in the public health sector in Cambodia and this is absolutely true.

There is virtually no malaria transmission left in the country. Just a few places in dense jungle near the borders.

Rampant deforestation is  what did it. Not recommended for other countries to follow suit!
