The government has instructed the Department of Groundwater Resources to set up 25 drinking water dispensers on main roads across the nation to ensure people stay hydrated during the searing hot summer months.

In a Facebook post, Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced the plan on Thursday (April 23), saying people will no longer have to spend for drinking water.

“These mineral water dispensers will cut down people’s expenses by thousands of baht per year,” CCSA said.

“The mineral water will be pumped from artesian wells using solar power and should be able to produce up to 20 cubic metres of water per hour. This water will be purified through the reverse osmosis [RO] system so people can be confident that the water they are drinking is pure, clean and safe.”

Three of these mineral water dispensers have already been set up, including one outside the Department of Groundwater Resources on Ngamwongwan Road in Bangkok, one at Si Prachan Methi Pramuk School on Suphanburi-Chai Nat Road and one at the Don Chedi Highway Depot on U Ya-Don Chedi Road in Suphanburi province.

The department will be setting up the remaining water dispensers within May at the following sites:

That's fine, 1 per 2,800,000 people, might be a bit of a queue.

Wow!  25? .. Amazing Thailand.

Got to be a joke

25!?

????

If they did not include a list of locations, I would have guessed a typo and it should have been 2,500 or at worst 250...but 25?

25 water dispensers will keep 60million+ hydrated?

Personally, I would not have made a press deal about this...but that's just me.

Doesn't reverse osmosis filter the minerals out? So how does this work?

With social distancing, how long?

3% off electricity was quite amusing, but this is beyond a joke.

I am sure that the head chap for the  Department of Groundwater Resources is a bit hacked off as well - I should imagine that he dressed up specially in his tightest uniform, with all his medals and badges to make the announcement, hung his ID card around his neck so that everyone knew he was important (or maybe just in case he forgot who he was!), and the silly so and so's never even published his photo!

I was just in conversation this morning yet again regarding the 3% off electricity. Did they inadvertently leave a zero off of the 3? As far as I am concerned if I had to do anything to get it then I don't want it. Waste o9f my time. What a Joke for 65 million +++ people divided into however many households! At least cut the poor more of a benefit. I actually don't need their hand outs and don't want them!. And now the 25 wells for free water for entire Thailand? This has to be all a bad dream or miscalculation?

They say that laughter is the best medicine, so many thanks to the author of this piece.

Simple really.

It's not about the water dispensers, it's about the backhanders.

They sit about all day trying to find ways of ripping off the budget.

1 meter is not enough. It's actually 2 meters.

So it should be 5600km long..........

Committee to decide where they should be located, bids for the containers, maintenance of said containers, transport and staff to keep them filled, press conference and publicity to announce the initiative.  Letters to 20 richest families begging for their support to make the service more widely available......

... got the number 25, from the Monk

This is one of the oddest stories. It must have been the creation of some general's nephew looking to make his first deal with the government. The birth of some little company with another one of those silly names like GangstaThai Inc or FunnyGuy Company.

This is why April fools doesn't work in Thailand.

Incredible.

Good way to spread the virus unless they hire a lackey to sterilize buttons and nozzle between each user

25 whole dispensers?  Don't go too far buddy.

...76 provinces in Thailand

Who gets the job of cleaning them? not just the outside the inside needs cleaning and the filters

Im thinking when this is all over they could be converted to serve beer

I am sure they will be rigorously maintained ,so should last

a very long time,????
