Immigration chief Pol Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang gave the results of several cases of fraud and overcharging involving face masks.

In one case a couple called "Chain" and "Bird" had used a picture of a prominent Phitsanulok policeman to gain the trust of people wanting to buy face masks on the Line application.

A complaint had been lodged with the Pathumwan police in Bangkok. After a deal was agreed for masks, a man calling himself "Captain Met" disappeared with transferred funds.

The couple admitted ripping people off eight times in their mask scam with losses running to 1.46 million baht. They spent the money on gambling and trips.

They were charged with fraud using a false profile.

In another case a man called Narongdech was arrested in a police sting in Charoen Sanitwong Soi 40. He was selling masks above the real price.

In a third case a man called Monchai was arrested after selling overpriced masks at On Nut BTS station. He was charging 20 baht a time and said he got the masks from a Cambodian gang operating at Sampeng Market in the capital.

The inquiry was widened and led to the arrest of two Cambodian nationals in Sa Kaeo province. Lee and Gui were bringing in the masks over the border.

more than likely the dobber did so on the premise that they thought they were actually dobbing in a corrupt copper?

 - after all the Line ruse itself seemed to be working!

Why would the chief of immigration be involved in a fraud case involving masks?

Why is the Immigration Chief involved with this? Nothing to do now, that they gave blanket visa extensions???

Whats up Sompong, no farangs to hassle, now the visas are on hold.????

What a sad/ pathetic state of affairs, when the immigration boss gets involved in internal matters.

Oh yes, finally the big signs and pointing are back.
