My visa is an O-A which expires in October 2020. I recently returne to Australia for a short perio but before i left i got a re entry visa at the airport, however because my passport expires in July they woul only issue the visa until that ate. I fully inten renewing my passport, so will i be able to get my re entry visa extenee until my O-A expires.

Normally a re-entry permit would be issued to the date your permit to stay ends not the end of your passport validity since you could use both passports for entry to use the re-entry permit in the old one. It really does seem odd they only did it until your passport expires. Perhaps an error by the person issuing it.

All you can do is try and enter using it after it expires and point out the error that was made.

Your post is utterly confusing.

A valid O-A Visa is Multi entry and therefore a re-entry permit (not Visa) are not required, unless it's a second year entry.

You urgently need to get a new Passport.

He might be on the 2nd one year entry from his OA visa and is incorrectly calling his permit to stay date a visa.

I reread his post and edited mine as I realised that fact.

If his Passport expires in July, then I would assume he was only granted permission of stay until that date and a re-entry permit to match.

Yes this is what i thought, the elerly lay seeme a little confuse when she saw when my PP expire. But i coul not argue with her so guess i will have to talk with RTE Canberra when i get out of cumpulsory isolation.       Sory keys sticking

I believe you mean a re-entry permit.

As your Passport expires in July, may I ask what date your current permission of stay stamp is.

I understand that, but what is your remaining time.

If your passport expires in July I would expect they only granted you permission of stay up to the expiry date of your Passport. i.e. The permitted to stay until date stamped in your Passport.

If your Passport expires July, then yes I believe they made a mistake with your permission of stay date, (Oct) but the re-entry permit was correctly dated to the expiry date of your Passport.

They do not date the expiration date on re-entry permits to the day a person's passport expires. The expiration date should be the same as his permit to stay date that it was issued for.

It would do no good to talk to the embasy about it. They cannot do anything for something that was done by immigration.

Agreed but it appears his permission of stay date is wrong. (Oct)

That also should have been dated to the expiry date of his Passport (July).

It appears he entered in Oct 2019 and the IO granted him a stay until Oct 2020, not noticing the expiry date of his Passport. He then obtained a re-entry permit and the IO noticing the expiry date of his Passport dated it as such.

I will try to clarify my O-A visa hoping that i am not confusing TANOSHI.

My original Visa was 10-12-2018 - 09-12-2019

I came in on 30th Jan 2019.

Because of the confusion concerning the new insurance requirements i took an early visa run to Malaysia on 27th OCT  ( The new insurance came in on 31st Oct)  an i wante to be sure of getting entry without the insurance. So my 2n  year expires on 26th Oct 2020.  I am now entitle to one extension which as Joe says shoul be open until 26th Oct. When she saw that my PP expires on 1st July, she was not prepare to accept the fact that i was about to get a new one an so gave me until then.   ( I hope you can unerstan this but my keyboar is sticking on one letter)

As soon as i get my new PP i will sen both to RTE Canberra with an explanitory letter. Hoping that they will un erstan .

as you are already out of the country just get a 60 day tourist visa and do a conversion to 90 day type O at local immigration and apply for a 12 month extension based on retirement - the only difference will be the finances have to be in a Thai bank - if your intention is to stay long term then it's no big deal having the money in Thailand instead of in your home country

Things become very simple once you do this
