Phiphat Ratchakitprakan

Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakan expected the government to ease lockdown measures to allow people to exercise or move about in public areas.

He made his remarks after a meeting with Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and related authorities on Friday (April 24) to discuss preparations if the government eases lockdown measures in some provinces.

“We have appointed Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, the director-general of Department of Health, to be president of the committee to set up guidelines on taking care of people and ways to avoid contracting Covid-19 if they have to do activities, such as exercising or travelling in public areas,” he said.

“In the first phase, we would allow holding of sports competitions that do not involve physical contact, such as badminton and tennis, while we will make preparations to welcome tourists.”

Meanwhile, Tourism Authority of Thailamd (TAT) Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said that initially, they expected the government to allow travel within the country first.

“It may be one-day trips to nearby provinces within a distance of 100-200 kilometres and limit the number of people at tourist attractions to reduce congestion,” he said. “However, we have to wait for the Cabinet’s resolution at the meeting next week.”

“We expect that if the government eases the lockdown measure, people would be able to travel by paying attention to their safety,” he added.

A meeting of great minds, Anutin and the TAT Minister Phiphat. The best number manipulators in the business.

  • I'm hoping this will include swimming pools.

TAT - lets get tourist attractions open ASAP

My tourist visits to Thailand typically involve

Hitting a clean beach (used to be OK with Jomtien) but now will head to Hua Hin, Cha Am, or Phuket Karon or Kamala.

Every now and then a gogo to sit and chill.  Not a big disco guy so places like Lucifer's on walking street get a pass.  Sometimes I stop into that first bar that plays Issan music which I like

A stop in to a pool hall now and then.  Get some food while playing with the staff.

Love a trip or two on a day bus ride say Pattya to Khorat, or Bangok to Sukhothai

Want to take a boat ride or even regular ferry in Bangkok.  15 trips just did not get around to it

Most of time in Pattaya as a base of operations.  It is just easy and cheap and plenty of food places from all over that I like, both western and Thai and sushi, etc.

Love a day at places like Nong Nooch, or the Dusit zoo in bangkok was great.

Love a day lounging and splashing around the hotel pool.

Hook up with a "tour guide" and take things from there

Love to visit Thai Temples, meditate, reflect on life as I have reached semi retirement age.

Foot massage very often.  Oil massage often depending on how the day's schedule went.

Don't mind a stroll down Nana and stop in for a beer here and there for a look see.

Don't mind a stroll down walking street either

Like a movie now and then if a hot day, or if out on a date

There are so many parts of the country I have not seen yet, so I know I will check out Udon Thani on my next trip.

I like a decent quality hotel.  My needs are modest, but I do want a place with a comfortable piece of furniture like a reclining chair or something.  Plain Jane hotels with simple wooden chair just doesn't do it for me.

So give me a decent hotel price on a weekly rate and you get this tourist back. Oh and no extra insurance requirements, no extra paper work, or certifications. I would be going on a visa exempt with a 30 day extension or a 60 day SETV and then get a 30 day extension.  My free time is increasing as I move into semi retirement

Basically I go for vacation and not to kill my self by burning the candle at both ends.  Not looking for the perfect match or the future wife, but one never knows.  Being lazy, and hating paperwork and dealing with USA government agencies, I have a hard time thinking that I would put up with all the immigration stuff needed to try and get a Thai back here.

The chief of Pattaya Police explained the reasoning in the Pattaya News recently. Depending on your viewpoint, it's either a dog-in-the-manger approach to spoiling everybody's relaxation and recreation, or else it's that last refuge of the bureaucrat, "I've been ordered to do this."

Here's what he had to say:

"Police Chief Khemmarin.....told the Pattaya News he knew that this was a difficult order and he understood why some people were struggling with the thought process of “why can’t I go swimming alone” or “sit alone in a park.” The Police Chief said that it would be unfair for the police to selectively allow some to be on the beach and others to not be as the orders were very clear from the governor that NO activities were allowed on the beaches."

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a direct link, so I won't, but the article is titled: "Pattaya City Police Chief speaks about beach and park closures, delivers message to residents, tourists and expats"

We have appointed Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, the director-general of Department of Health, to be president of the committee

Glad to know there is yet another committee setup.

100-200 km ? So what if someone needs drive from one end of country to the other ? They have to stop every 100-200km per day ?

Only lockdown in pattaya is the curfew.

They keep writing these articles as if it applies to the whole country I’m guessing the writers are in Bangkok somewhere.

Still waiting, but soon will make another 8-hour drive down to the coast.  Not tourists.  We have a house and a boat waiting.  I wonder how many times they’ll stop us...

Open the Travel between Provinces starting May 1 is my thinking.

69.5 Million people and only 50 deaths?
Stop this mass hysteria already.

The required wearing of masks when alone on a beach or street is about as stupid as it gets as well...

I guarantee the pollution in N Thailand kills more people indirectly long term as this bug ever will.

How many died on the Thai highways this year so far?
Remember you DON’T necessarily die if you get the bug, my ex wife (64) caught it and was laid up for 2 weeks, recovered, and now well.

Bring back common sense and freedom already.

Up here some restaurants have begun letting people eat inside again but not big crowds and only a few restaurants on our street.

Any of the barbers that the members of the Thai Cabinet use should be OK. They are always well groomed so the illegal hairdressers they use must employ barbers with two meter long arms????

Please General, just let me ride my bike from Patong to Rawai and back at 6:30 am.
PLEASE!!!!!

Seconded!

"There is a famous saying. “The first casualty of war is the truth”. Well, from what we are seeing around the world, the first casualty of a pandemic is not only the truth, but also rational thinking."

Taken from the best article I read on the current situation at ;- https://envirowatchrangitikei.wordpress.com

If your a Kiwi its a must read!

Well worth a read!

Good luck with that, maybe he could practice with the Thais living in my Moo Baan who still do not wear masks, sit around in large family/friend groups every evening outside on tables eating & drinking.

How many people have topped themselves over this mass hysteria ?  Probably more than the "Official figures" for the virus.....  Madness......
