  • Very few people wear masks in the UK , social distancing isnt really understood . Half the population is on lock down and the other half are all congregating together and standing on bridges all

  • Ha ha, yes , its was a figure of speech , I didnt literally mean *50 %*  :) 99 %  of people would have realised that ????

What’s positive about over 20,000 deaths?

It's not yet reach 30,000? Is that positive?

The government give figures. The press run with it. Wheres the investigative reporting into say this April's death rate against last years death rate? Wheres the investigative reporting on recoveries? Where is the reporting on what the death tally in terms of how it affects the population as a whole. Wheres the reporting on how many of the 20000 deaths are a direct result of contracting Covid 19and not just people with Covid 19? Seems to me that flu has been cured as no one has died from that this year either. Reporting doom and gloom sells advertising space and the media are well aware that many folk would rather wallow in negativity. You could argue the fact that the government should give these figures, or you could argue the fact the media should investigate the figures they are given.

Please don't change the meaning of my post by leaving out part of it.

Please stop blaming the media for the terrible job the government is doing of this.

Almost 300 deaths per million population. Compare that to 0.7 deaths per million persons in Thailand. And westerners were arguing that masks were useless and Thais are brainless.

If you are quoting the Thai Government figures as accurate then 'yes'....  You have perfectly described yourself

If you're gullible enough to believe the media telling you the government is doing a terrible job that's up to you. But with 10,000 beds still available im the NHS and and hardly anyone in the Nightingale Hospitals, it shows me the government strategy is working.

OMG! They can't staff the Nightingale Hospital due to a shortage of nurses. Patients have had to be turned away...........oh! Sorry that was in the Guardian, I better check the real story by reading the Daily Mail.

And by your very statement you have justified my lack of faith in the MSM

No, its nothing to do with nurses availability , the regular hospitals are coping

lol the real total is now between 43,000 and 46,000 because Johnson and his hapless mob have only been recording (deliberately) hospital deaths and not deaths elsewhere primarily from old peoples homes knowing how catastrophic they are

We have a death record currently only marginally behind the USA despite a population of only 1/5th the size.

Johnson and Cummings will almost certainly face calls for collective manslaughter when this is all over for the incompetance and deliberate protection of their chums business interests initially

Staggeringly only today its reported that we are to put people arriving in the UK into quarantine something that should have happened on March 1st. The knives are very very sharp for that blond bombers back make no mistake and rightly so. Even now there are many that dont believe he caught Corona in the first place and has been hiding in his fridge snorting and quaffing Champers with Carrie throughout.....

I dont subscribe to that but when you have a serial liar for a PM what do you expect

The Government’s own report say their deaths are attributed to COVID-19.

Where is your evidence these reported causes of death are incorrect?

The UK figure for deaths is likely more understated than the Thai figure (IMO). The UK has tens of thousands of nursing homes where old people have been dropping like flies and are not counted. Thailand maybe has 4 nursing homes? The UK has unrecorded deaths in the community, same as Thailand (I don't subscribe to the Isaan-people-like-to-die-at-home theory, much loved by the conspiratorial!).

For me, The Thai poster doesn't have to think the Thai figures are accurate when comparing UK and Thailand. I very much doubt that the Thai death understatement is any more significant than the UK death understatement, so the comparison of 0.03% for the UK with 0.0001% for Thailand* - over 400 times as many deaths in the UK - may well be a fair representation of the relative outcomes to date.

There are of course some unavoidable factors that probably/possibly contribute to the UK's dire performance relative to Thailand that should be considered if one is looking to attribute blame for outcomes:

* A lot higher percentage of older people in the UK than in Thailand

* A much denser and more urbanised population in the UK than in Thailand. Contrast the rates in Bangkok with those in Isaan if you want to understand the disadvantages of density

* Heat and humidity may have reduced the infection rates in Thailand

* The European strains of Covid may be more aggressive than those in Thailand, some of which no doubt originated in China

Given all the factors contributing to death it's impossible to say to any level of verification which Government has performed better - I'm just glad I live with my co-morbidities here in Thailand than back in my land of origin.

*UK population 66.7 million (2019) and Thailand 69.4 million (2018) per quick Google

Edit: Forgot to add some more balance to the first para - UK has nursing homes but Thailand reportedly has some worker-related hostels that may be doing a similar job (though there seem to be no reports of mass fatalities (so far) in collective living accommodations in Thailand).

But.... but... but... Whataboutary.

Your aversion to the true number of COVID-19 deaths being reported/discussed is something you should think about.

Clearly not enough being done in the u.k “. Understand people who are arriving back in the u.k are put into quarantine for 14 days before being allowed back to there own homes. Interesting point regarding care homes ! In wales there’s not enough being done with one care home losing 47 people in a month - report can be found on wales online ! frightening statistics as all care homes across England and Wales should be tested regardless of cost.

There are no restrictions in travelling to the UK and no quarantine requirements when you arrive and no screening when you arrive.

It must be true surely.....there it is blue, black and white.

The Nightingale is clearly not a hospital. It’s an emergency overflow facility to ventilate patients to stop them from dying when hospitals have run out of space.\

Regular hospitals are coping with the epidemic thus  nurses are staying where they are instead of being transferred to the Nightingale  .

Oh I see.....it's not a hospital........and they didn't turn patients away??????? You've lost me.

Compared to coronavirus where the world has been under lockdown........what might the figures have been like without such action??

Look at Sweden and do the maths.

Are you denying the report in the Daily Mail (and elsewhere) is true?

Apparently it doesn't count because..............it's not a hospital???????

Where they only count a coronavirus death if the body is a. tested (not in all cases) and b. proves positive........keeps the numbers nice and low.

They are emergency overflow centers to deal with Corvid patients if regular hospitals get overwhelmed , regular hospitals are coping at the moment

You want to count deaths without testing?

How scientific. Just make them.up and scare people 555

And you have evidence of the autospies performed on these 23000 or so old people homes deaths?

If the data being reported by Sweden is correct, then the virus is killing over 12% of the people it infects, almost 4 times that being reported globally.

I suggest anyone who wants to do the math on the Swedish data waits until the Swedes report better data.

How does that compare with UK or Italy?

Ages

Health problems
