Highlanders in Tak’s Phop Phra, Mae Sot and Umphang districts have given 20 tonnes of agricultural produce for distribution among officials and local people affected by Covid-19.

A provincial official said that on April 24, Tak’s hilltribes sent about 20 tonnes of edibles such as cabbage, radish, bitter gourd, sweet potato and leafy vegetables for distribution among locals suffering from both the virus and the severe drought.

The sign makers must be doing a roaring business at present

Every time a group of people do something to help out the community, up sprout a group of uniformed officials and a regulation size banner

It's a great gesture by the hilltribes.

I can't help wondering why officials are included? Surely doesn't this indicate they're government employees and must still be receiving their full salary, not the same as most other locals?

Or perhaps it might be some 'hierarchy' thing, where they feel beholden unto them and need to keep them in the loop?

Perhaps they're hard-of-learning and didn't understand the concept of it. Or have they been listening to those who claim Thais are impervious to it.

Social distancing takes a back seat when theres a chance of a photo being taken, making them look like they were helping.... Really pathetic when you think about it.
