The Emerald Hotel in Bangkok will temporarily cease operations from May 1 until the Covid-19 situation improves, the hotel management said on Tuesday (April 28).

The 619-room hotel is located on Ratchadaphisek Road in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district.

The management said the decision to temporarily shutdown was in compliance with the government’s measure to reduce public assembly so as to minimise the risk of the virus spreading.

Earlier this month, the hotel had complied with the government’s social distancing measure by closing down its health club, swimming pool, restaurants and coffee shops.

Many temporarily closed in 2010 during the Red Shirt troubles.

I'm in central BKK, and a lot of the smaller hotels have quietly (temporarily) closed in recent weeks around where I live. I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been more news coverage about it.

But as they usually earn 2 fortunes, i guess it's ok to lose some money...
