Student Union of Thailand (SUT)’s representative, Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak, along with delegates from 27 other student networks, went to the Commerce Ministry on Thursday (May 7) to ask the government for more measures to help people pull through the Covid-19 crisis.

Parit said people are struggling nationwide, and hopes the government will make its remedial packages more universally available.

“We want the government to reconsider the conditions set for the Bt5,000 cash handout and also want the government to give Bt3,000 to every citizen above the age of 18 for three months,” Parit said.

As per the Bureau of Registration Administration’s records, Thailand has 50.8 million citizens at the age of 18 and older. If Bt3,000 was given to each of these citizens, it will cost the country Bt45.7 billion, a small amount from the country’s gross domestic product, he said.

Extend help? You have to start before you can extend.

Thais who lost their business or job, but attend school for one day in a week, to achieve some kind of graduation one day, had been rejected by the current 5.000 scheme with the absurd ground "that there are students", and therefore not eligible. Upon a complaint of the judging, a student whom I know personally, received the same answer word for word the second time.
