BOT governor Veerathai Santiprabhob

Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana has reportedly given his stamp of approval to a seven-member committee tasked with selecting a new governor of the Bank of Thailand.

Among the committee members are former Industry Minister Atchaka Sibunruang, former central bank governor Chaiwat Wiboonsawat and former Finance Ministry permanent secretary Rangsan Sriworasat.

The five-year term of current BOT governor Veerathai Santiprabhob will end this September, after he took office on October 1, 2015.

Notable achievements during Veerathai’s tenure include his initiative to overhaul commercial banks’ service fees and his push for Thailand to become a "cashless society" via a range of different projects.

One of the criteria for a new governor must be they are a natural 'worrier'.

So many times when there has been criticism about the strength of the Thai Baht, I remember reading the current governor claimed he was 'very worried', but he never did anything about it.

Why not give the vote to the people of Bangkok?

Oh! Come on! It's determined by the highest bidder!

Whoever gets the job must prioritise sorting out the inane strength of the baht.

Exports will never recover when goods are priced so high.

When you have a bottomless pit of Thai baht......who cares?

I imagine it will be another 'jobs for the boys' appointment.

Although my schedule seems quite full with sailing and farming—they can consider me for next BoT Governor.  I have experienced all the ramifications of an overpriced Baht, and promise to move heaven and earth to subdue it.

"cashless society"

If it wasn't all on a telephone, I wouldn't mind so much. I'd much rather handle most of my transactions from the computer. (It's harder for me to lose it).

And the people of "Bangkok" should decide for the Bank of Thailand? This is job that should be filled by a committee and it looks like they have selected some qualified people.
