Thailand partners with UN agency to cut CO2 emissions

The Cabinet on Tuesday (May 12) approved a multibillion-baht project with the United Nations to tackle Thailand’s notorious air pollution problem.

 

The Industry Ministry’s Department of Industrial Works was given the green light to partner with the UN Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) in a five-year programme to cut emissions of industrial greenhouse gas.

 

The project will apply principles of mutual benefit by using environmentally friendly chemical products or by-products from certain industries to benefit other industries or nearby communities, explained deputy government spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul.

 

The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and other harmful chemicals, from industrial and urban communities.

 

The project is backed by funding of US$8.966 million (Bt288 million) from the World Environment Fund, with Thai government agencies and participating businesses contributing a further $120 million (Bt3.85 billion).

 

"The project has a duration of five years [2020-2024]. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide and long-lasting pollutants by 620 tonnes," said Traisulee.

Why  not  just burn the money now, it  will produce less hot air and less Co2

Ah, so today you are focusing on our restaurant ???? Thank you for doing your research again...

We don't use plastic bags for take aways. We do use plastic drink cups though.

You are welcome to visit any time. I think you will find it a lot more hygienic and the staff much better trained than most local eating places.

Ate they morons???  If we are to increase food production for an ever increasing global population we will need to double CO2 production,  not cut it.   NOx and CO on the other hand........

Here's a few tips:

Legislate to control human populations in cities, future births to limit potential increase in pollution generation.

Reduce vehicle ownership and ban all personal motor vehicles and motorcycles from city center's.

Outlaw all personal burning of garbage or any waste product.

Make it mandatory for all commercial, goods delivery and construction vehicles and equipment to be electric in a 25km radius within city centers.

CO2 is colorless, so cover photo correct?
Until now I haven’t seen CO2 measured in Thailand.

POPs: 
Initially, twelve POPs have been recognized as causing adverse effects on humans and the ecosystem and these can be placed in 3 categories:

• Pesticides: aldrin, chlordane, DDT, dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor, hexachlorobenzene, mirex, toxaphene;
• Industrial chemicals: hexachlorobenzene, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs); and
• By-products: hexachlorobenzene; polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/PCDF), and PCBs.
