Every time this topic comes up, it's clear the government wants to collect the fees and pocked them into government coffers.

 

It's NEVER been clear that in exchange for paying the fees, the incoming tourist visitors for that 300b or whatever would actually get any kind of real health insurance coverage.

 

Only that the fees SUPPOSEDLY would go to support the public health system.

You really ought to try and separate out the media rhetoric from what is actually said.

 

The point is that it's being held out as insurance.  It is not.  It's a tax. 

 

And just judging from half a dozen posts on this thread alone, it's likely that some travelers, as idiotic as it sounds, will forgo genuine insurance because they paid their $10 for "Thai gov't insurance" so they expect to be covered.  Which serves neither the Thai hospitals who will be stiffed for the cost of their treatment, nor the travelers who will be in for a rude awakening. 

 

The only winner will be GoFundMe.com taking their cut of the fund raisers.

Why is everyone avoiding the obvious elephant in the room? China is responsible for the world's misery, why make the rest of us pay for it? If any of you had the sense to read the latest intelligence reports that are now coming out of Western governments, this virus was released as early as mid-october from a lab in Wuhan China.

I remember when you had to pay a separate 500 baht "airport tax" before boarding. Maybe pay this in immigration upon arrival?
