Strict screening, social-distancing to be applied on public transport

Commuters using state-run public transport as well as interprovincial buses will be screened for fever and will have to maintain a distance of at least one metre from one another, Jirut Wisanjit, deputy director of the Department of Land Transport, said on Wednesday (May 13).

Since the country is still under a state of emergency to curb the spread of Covid-19, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob has instructed all agencies under his ministry to ensure social distancing is closely observed on public transport.

In addition, passengers travelling to other provinces will be required to fill out a questionnaire, along with their name, address, telephone number as well as the origin of their trip and destination. They will also be required to wear a face mask throughout the journey.

Meanwhile, transport offices have for now suspended the issuing of new driving licences, though registration and tax services are being provided as per usual. However, annual car tax can be paid online via https://eservice.dlt.go.th or at the drive-through channel provided at most land transport offices.

How will they screen the buses for fever? Check the water temperature or the oil level?   Plus I don't think one metre is enough. The buses need to be at least 12 metres apart at 30km/h

Right.

they love their questionnaires, to what end? you can usually write any old nonsense as no one ever seems to check them... still i guess it's all about being seen to be doing something, like 'security' checks at malls...

and while they are screening them best check the brakes as well though we haven't had a good old brake failure story for a while

Words,  words and more words without any meaning... I have seen the pictures from BTS... distancing 10 cm maybe, but not 1 meter...

Fair enough but could have happened some time ago. Face mask for the whole journey is interesting. Thais get on a bus and fall asleep immidiately. Just imagine signs saying please keep your mask on when asleep. One metre apart? This is a nonsence. Someone sneezes and has covid, mask or not this will circulate in an airconditioned environment. As for the photo well we can't identify the bus numbers now can we. This is probably the decision of an empty head who drives to or gets driven to work in a Merc.

A work colleague is at Bang Pho MRT (Blue Line). She says the trains are full (social distancing "full") and only 5 people are being allowed to board each train. A complete disaster!

Mass transit just cannot operate with these rules in place, no I don't have a better idea at present ????

Taken at 7AM this morning.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Perhaps where its not possible/practical to social distance like those trains, then just up the protection required for the journey.........just a suggestion.

It was taken with a real camera, but then photographer's kid just discovered Photoshop has some effects in there... Or maybe photographer was attacked by a flock of hungry lions just as he was about to take a photo so it was snapped while he was running...

Social distancing on public transport is impossible if the system is to work at all. If passengers aren't crammed in like sardines on the train, they'll be crammed together on the platform, on the stairs to the platform, at the turnstiles, down the stairs to the street, back down the street etc etc.

The Guardian has a handy visual-rich look at how social distancing would impact the Tube (Northern Line).

The UK have a "better" idea, but just as much a disaster.

“Social distancing during the peak was a joke. During the suspension our carriages were heaving. It will get worse,” said one worker.

Nothing wrong with the ole box brownie, I used to take clear photos of my pet dog np  :-)

Looks great being 1 metre apart on the station. How about inside the train?

On the airport link train you had to sometimes wait for the second train as the first was chocers.

Plus some of the stations have narrow platforms and were full of people so now they will be lining up a metre apart all the way down the stairs. Allow an extra hour when going to swampy!

As long as ppl don't constantly talk infection risk is low. Keep your mouth shut to stop droplets going out. At least in Bkk ppl wear masks. Look at UK pics and Underground, packed and no masks.

Plus driven by a One legged driver.

So in the event of an accident he can't do a runner.

Is that 12 seater reduced to 6?

Or the normal 14 or 16 they jamb in reduced to?

Puts A new slant on the term "Flying Coffins".
