Prawit urges New Normal in Smart Cities

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minsiter Gen Prawit has urged Smart City projects to support New Normal lifestyles after the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting equality, inclusivity, health, safety, and sustainability.

 

Deputy Prime Minsiter Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has chaired the first National Smart City Steering Committee this year at Government House, where he acknowledged the appointment of committee members, and development progress in 2018-2019.

 

The committee has acknowledged candidates for three model Smart City development projects, and one Smart Urban City development project, namely Phaholyothin Transportation Center in Bangkok, the Eastern Economic Corridor in Chonburi, Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate in Chonburi, and Phuket City.

 

The committee has approved the appointment of the Minister of a Digital Economy and Society as the chair of the Project Management Committee, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society’s Permanent Secretary as the national representative of the ASEAN Smart City Network’s meeting this year in Hanoi, Vietnam.

 

Gen Prawit urged the committee to urgently push forward smart city developments to promote development, yield benefits to the general public, promote equality and improve quality of life. The development must facilitate New Normal lifestyles emerging from COVID-19 pandemic, in line with the Thailand 4.0 model and the 20-year national strategy.

 

He also urged the Ministry of a Digital Economy and Society and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue ASEAN-related projects planned for this year, expecting concrete outcomes.

Just where is all this money to come from. They can not even take care of the people during these Covid-19 times. Yet they spend like they have trillions in the coffers....get f....real Thailand and Prawit. Maybe sell some of your watches....

How can they ever have a smart city ? For that you need smart people.  Most Thais cant look left and right, tell green from red and drive on the correct side of the road. And as for reading, writing and lying !!

Why do all the ideas emanating from Government ignore the fact that there are conurbations in many other parts of Thailand further away from Bangkok that could do with some investment, namely the NE & N of the country!

Interesting that covid-19 was anticipated in the 20 year plan which came out in 2017.

They're a bit behind. I see no reference to 'ramping up' which seems even more prevalent than the virus...

Shouldn't a fat old man like that be self-isolating, ideally for a very long time?

My guess is that he wants the contact tracking software on all phones and sees this as a first step. Tracking your every move.

Thailand will never have smart cities. They will only take on the negative dystopian aspects of technology. Thailand will not be spared quite the opposite.

 

Innerparty members, party members, proles. Thailand will grow more like the Philippines. Desperate city slum dwellers in passive aggressive rebellion. Bucolic countryside producing staples.

The government is absolutely addicted to paper and employs armies of shufflers. Whike is innovative thinking at the uppermost levels it will never take hold unless it can be used for command and control. Quality of life? Not so much.

Smart people would never even try to get a "Smart City" [Surveillance and Control City would be a better term]

Hair dye was an essential item during the lock-down. Why some people will not age gracefully and with dignity has always amazed me. All set for business now - full facial mask. Now that is serious stuff.
