A motorcycle taxi driver took advantage of the coronavirus pandemic by going on Facebook and telling Laotian people that he could get them home to Laos is they paid him 2500-3000 baht to pay off bent immigration officers.

Some 250 Laotian turned up at the Thai - Laos Friendship bridge in Nong Khao after the post on the "Khon Ubon Daen Isaan Tai" page.

This soon led to the arrest of Rach, 38, who offers a motorcycle taxi service in Samut Sakhon, IB chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang said yesterday.

Rach said this was the first time he had ever done anything wrong and if all came about because he often took foreigners to immigration and knew the ropes.

He was charged under Thailand's strict computer crime legislation.

One rope to lure them, and then one rope to lasso them, and then one rope to hang himself...
