Entrepreneurs required to register on ThaiChana as part of Covid-19 prevention

Entrepreneurs will be urged to register on the ThaiChana (Thai Victory) platform from Sunday (May 17) as a way to prevent Covid-19 when the second phase of lockdown relaxations become effective.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Saturday (May 16) that the platform will be available for registration on Sunday from 6am on www.ไทยชนะ.com

The Covid-19 contact-tracing platform will generate a QR code for registering business owners, who can put up the QR code on their business front doors. The QR code will tell them about the number of people in their business places, and their services will be rated.

At the same time, customers can just use their smartphones to check-in and check-out at those venues. Authorities will know only the phone number of the users.

People who come to shops, such as restaurants or barbers, have to scan the QR code to enter, which will let them know if the shop is crowded or not. Moreover, ThaiChana can show users available restaurants or venues in wide areas, guiding users' decision in choosing places to visit, the spokesman added.

When checking out, customers are advised to rate services in order to report whether shops are implementing preventive measures such as social distancing, arranging gel for handwash, wearing masks and avoiding congestion.

Should anyone contract the virus, risk groups who come to the shop at that specific time interval will be informed via a message and they will be asked to test for the virus free of  charge.

I can see this being more of a Thai Failure, once people see their every move is being traced by the authorities, and refuse to take part.

I can just look on my CCTV app to see if our restaurant is busy...

Customers can see from their car when they pull up.

Don't think we will be registering.

This and a push towards cashless payment are probably part of the agenda behind the WuFlu hype and hysteria.

I take your point and agree about their every move being traced, but I just can't image most people here even thinking about it.
So many have no idea about security, one person I know has a secure PIN for their ATM card - 111111. A lot more use birth-dates, which are not so difficult to discover if you're a career criminal.

Correct.. The government doesn't care about any foreigners living in or stuck outside Thailand.

That's the wisest thing you have said for a while...

For your future replies, I wear a mask in Singapore as it's a $300 on the spot fine if not wearing one. I don't really go to bars as a habit and don't drink at home either.

Quite. As I said in my post #5:

"I take your point and agree about their every move being traced, but I just can't image most people here even thinking about it."

Yinn's post (#9) proves the point.

this app will not only require everyone to have a smartphone but also a data connection

like I said in a previous post - it seems you won't be able to enter a shop or building without it, at least the UK went for the simple BT option

It's just never going to work, far to complex and too many requirements

customers are advised to rat.

I think this poster would favour "government-controlled exploding thought collars", if the Thai government said they were required.

It is truly scary that some people think this way.

just the phone number? without the i.d. attached to it?

Apart from the whole aspect of privacy there is a very worrying trend evolving. Governments obviously want more and more control over the people (totally insane amounts of control). However it has become very obvious in the past few months that they cannot provide for and sustain that population when it is under their control.

It is becoming worryingly obvious that the urge to have power and control is completely at odds with the economic situation.

People in power still believe (or want to believe) that a placid , supported society with little economic leeway is the desired goal. However in reality they are creating a dystopian, unsustainable nightmare ; far removed from economic reality.

the alternative for the same effect would be to issue everyone with a QR code Id that must be scanned everywhere you go - in reality both do exactly the same thing - monitor absolutely everything you do and follow you everywhere and when facial recognition technology improves it will also have the same effect but just not so obvious and (in your face) - we are already exposed to facial recognition on Google and Facebook - when you're lining up to take a photo and all those little weird squares appear - facial recognition, some devices even offer a device unlock feature using your face - everyone thinks it's cool .................... it isn't, you are being profiled, ever wonder about those questions pushed to you that ask a perfectly innocent question - e.g. what happen this day when you were born - another scam to get your DOB

I said years ago that little innocent thing called a "cookie" was the biggest affront to privacy we have ever seen - it still is, did anyone notice when all the privacy stuff got exposed a few years back - what was the result of all that - well every site you visit on the net required you to approve cookies - a cookie is the QR code, you can disable cookies but will end up losing a lot of net functionality if you do, facebook and google (and many others) will not allow you to access their services without cookies enabled - ever wonder why

On TVF for example - you think your id is unknown because you have an anonymous login and name - think again, cookies link to your facebook - youtube google id etc

BIG brother is watching you whether you like it or not and as technology advances it will become more and more intrusive and there will come a point in the not too distant future when you can do absolutely nothing about it

Just wait until we have implants put under our skin the day we are born - it is all coming folks and it happens so gradually we don't see it

for the moment what Thailand is proposing is unworkable for the reasons I gave above - it is too complex and not everyone even owns a device to support it or data access to enable it to function - but you can see were they are heading with this and it isn't pretty

Yinn,

If you only knew what the "government" was trying to do with all the data it is collecting on you, then you would be worried, as it gets used by so many officials, local RTP etc, who use it for their own gain.

I am not talking about just tracing smartphones, I am talking about databases of all residents being handed over to a foreign government, satellite and smart city technology used for primarily surveillance of Thailand's own people

I don't know all of it, but I get involved in enough of it to know that there are not adequate safeguards in place.
