We will arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at scheduled time 06.00.

We should continue to Khon Kaen, and as to my knowledge, the flight is from Don Muang.

Can we expect to be on time to the flight departing from Don Muang at 09.10?

A little more detail re: your itinerary (carriers, day of week, arrival time, etc.) would really help for specific recommendations.

Yes, the three daily TG flights are now DMK-KKC so you will have to make your way from Suvarnabhumi to Don Muang. Exit the aircraft, clear Immigration, retireve checked bags, clear Customs (you are on level 2), make your way up to level 4 (departures level, outer curb, grab a taxi dropping someone off), or down to level 1 (official taxi stand). Take a taxi to Don Muang. Three hours should be sufficient provided your arriving flight is on time, the wait for Immigraiton is short and your bags show up in a reasonable amount of time, and there are no traffic issues. I could see you getting into a taxi by 07:00 and at DMK by 08:00 under normal circumstances.

You can do it but I would not risk it as so many things can go wrong

30 minutes to 1 hour delay of arriving flight

Long queues at immigration bags taking 45 minutes to appear

Traffic accident on tollway etc

Why not take Air Asia from Suvanabhumi or allow yourself more time and book the next flight. If you makeit in time TG would normaly acept you taking the previous flight.

Thanks.

OK - some more details on the flight:

TG 0951

10th of may (tue) 14.35 Copenhagen

11th of may (fri) 06.00 Bangkok Suvarnabhumi

? Bangkok Don Muang

? Khon Kaen

Would it be possible to book the 13.50 from Bangkok and then, if we are lucky on the schedule, change it to 09.10?

I am fairly certain that only TG serves KKC so any suggestions for using Air Asia seem irrelevant.

Since you are on an all TG itinerary and TG allows you to book it on a single reservation (PNR) I would stick with the 09:10 departure. In the event that you were to misconnect TG would automatically protect you on the 13:50 flight. AFAIK TG is less than accomodating when it comes to standing by for earlier flights but YMMV.

BTW, I was under the impression TG was allowing 3:30 for minimum connection times for BKK/DMK connections?

My mistake Air Air Asia stopped flying to KKC

TG would automatically TRY to book you on the next flight IF there are seats available.

I very much doubt TG would keep track of the time bags come out on the baggage carousel and then re-book passengers.

Especially it is up to you to choose a bus or a taxi....

It is not a good advise to say Tg will look after you as in practice they might they might not.

Even in F class you have to look after yourself and take care of your own onward connection re-booking etc.

if all goes well it is possible to do (land at 6am in SUV and take-off at 9:10am) but I would not risk it without having myself a reservation on the next flight so that I don't have to spend the whole day if not more in BKK

Why not consider renting a car or using one of the car transfers you could probably do it for just over 5K and be in KKC before lunch for sure and no worries on your arrival time...

Any airline will willingly put you on an earlier flight if they have available seats. It makes economic sense to do it (more for them than for you) as it enables them to fill in otherwise empty seats and allow them to maybe sell your original seat again...

This is my experience in more than 140.000 miles of flying a year for the last 15 years......

Thank you for the answers.

We seriously consider the option of renting a car. We will have a two-hours drive from Khon Kaen to Kuchinarai in Kalasin anyway.

Renting a minivan with driver from Kuchinarai to go to Bangkok to pick us up and drive back to Kuchinarai cost 1.500 THB a day + gas.

Our main priority is to get to our destination as fast as posible. And with the 09.10 departure we would be arriving earliest. The minvan option will be only one or two hours later - and only 1/3 in price.

So the uncertainty about getting to Don Muang in time and then maybe be waiting for 6 hours in the airport (I hate that) points in the direction of the minivan option. Hmmm...
