What to do in Phrae

 

The Phrae Province is one of the most ancient cities of Northern Thailand. Phrae was established in 1371 B.E. by Phaya Pol. The former name wad "Pol Nakorn", then changed to "Wiang Ko Sai" which means "Silk Cloth". With one of the largest reserves of teak forests in Thailand. It is located on the banks of the Yom River, some 555 kilometers from Bangkok.

 

One of the most authentic, traditional and peaceful provinces you can expect to visit in all of Thailand.

1. Wat Phra That Cho Hae

Built in the Sukhothai period, Wat Phra That Cho Hae is a major religious and perhaps the most sacred Buddhism site of Phrae. The highlight is the 33-meter-tall Chiang Saen-style phra that (pagoda), wrapped with bright brass sheets, which enshrines holy relics of Lord Buddha.

 

2. The Ban Thep Museum

Baan Thep Museum is a private museum, was established in 2015 by the owner who has fascinated to collect the various curiosities for 30 years with an idea not only displays his collections but to let the visitors to be a part of Thai ancient times also.


This museum exhibits many precious and rare antiques, which have aged more than 100 years, such as the Chinese pearl inlaid furniture’s, the craved wooden book case with ivory frets, the Chinaware’s, the brasses, the armours, the frog drums, the Lanna bells (Pang Lang), the porcelains, the ancient clocks, etc.
