Third phase of lockdown easing likely from June 1

The third phase of lockdown relaxation will take effect on June 1, after five relevant procedures are completed, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) informed on Friday (May 22).

 

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, CCSA spokesman, said that the procedures would be operated from May 23 to 31. The first procedure, on May 23 and 24, is collection of information on the Covid-19 situation by officials involved with the lockdown relaxation.

 

“The officials will hold a meeting on May 25 and 26, and, on May 27 another meeting will be held by the specialised committee to consider whether the lockdown needs to be eased or not.”

 

The decision on the third phase will be taken at the CCSA meeting on May 29, and would be enforced on the first day of June, he said.

 

Taweesin added that the businesses, which would be allowed to resume in the third phase, have not been determined, but they would not be high-risk ones like night clubs. Currently, places that sell food and beverage, malls, supermarkets, retail and convenience stores, banks, salons, beauty clinics, parks, pharmaciesand government organisations have been allowed to reopen.

 

Businesses that remain closed are zoos, amusement and water parks, game centres, gathering halls, exhibition centres, schools, amulet markets, spas, massage parlours, tattoo shops and boxing camps.

Schools are the biggest problem. Social distancing will not be possible and clusters are going to form. Without an effective test & trace network opening them up will create an army of asymptomatic children carriers bringing the virus home from the classes.

Yes.  It's been known among epidemiologists (for decades!) that children are efficient carriers and that returning to school in the fall invariably corresponds to a large increase in flu every year.  

No mention of sport stadia?

and for good reason I assume... those have been the hot spots where one infected person transmits to 50... and then exponentially from there...

Initially as part of blanket restrictions imposed without much detail consideration. Understandable then but now?

 

For officialdom to change it's mind in the face of requests pointing out perhaps the illogical aspect of their decision would involve significant loss of face. It could possibly be overcome by instituting a committee of two, The face gained by being on a committee could possibly override the face lost by reversing a silly decision. But taking such decisions takes time.

The EP and International schools can’t even get any teachers....so how are they gonna open?

They say parks are open but the National Parks are still closed ?

I am afraid that people started already their own phases. Yesterday at around 8 in the evening at the Tree Town area in Soi Buakhao here in Pattaya - very many hookers standing around without masks (many ladymen), many other people without masks, people with beer bottles sitting around and walking around with their bottles in the hand, people sitting close together in restaurants, etc. At the beginning of the crises I had a bad feeling running around without a mask. Yesterday there I felt the first time stupid to walk around with a mask.

Yeh but the virus has probably been here since last year and the schools didn't close til March.

I can't remember any schools being closed due to all the teachers becoming sick, unless it was hushed up (which is always a possibility here)

 

I'm not sure kids have any role to play in this either as becoming sick or passing it on

If they did I think we would have much higher figures all over the world

What peeeeeees me off is that the night markets are so crowded, yet the local water-holes where the expats here socialise, no working girls, unless wives or girlfriends, would be lucky to have a dozen people there at a time and are open with plenty of airflow, or on a corner and not closed in.

 

One size doesn't fit all, but then again, this is Thailand and the last time I tried putting one on, well like I said, one size doesn't fit all.

I believe that these phases being brought in gradually, are there for a reason, e.g. to slowly allow us to get infected, to build up the "herd immunity" while keeping the hospitals at a level where they can treat the patients as opposed to being overwhelmed with infected people and spreading it to others in the hospitals, patients and workers alike.

 

I agree with what you are saying about the kids going back to school and clusters forming.

 

We have 4 kids and I we were very concerned over the past 5 months, we even thought of holding them back for a year as I have an underlying condition.

 

As time has gone on and we have found out that it is not as bad as they said it was, apart from spreading more easily, and we have had to accepted that we have no control over any of this.

 

Getting out of the house here and there has made us feel better and we have come to now accept that eventually we are all going to get infected, i.e. there is no escape and if we won't get on with out lives, the head F will do both mine and my wives heads in, so at the end of the day, we will just keep putting the masks on, wash our hands regularly, sanitize and keep our distance from people, we have drilled it into the kids heads what they need to do and the reasons they need to take care, and if we do end up getting infected, we can only hope that we all get through it, kids aren't too much of a concern as we know its predominantly the elderly, people with underlying conditions, or both, people with weak immune systems, obese people, and the very young. In my situation with an underlying condition, it will be trying no doubt, but as I said, I have accepted it and will continue to live and be as careful as possible, roll of the dice I suppose ?

 

As the old saying goes, life is short, so just keep enjoying it, because there are no guarantees that we won't end up with something else, and to keep worrying about this Covid-19, well mental health is another issue isn't it.

 

If and when a vaccine is available, well guess we will be putting up our hands for it ????

There are plenty open in Bangkok.

Just got off the Marriott site half a dozen of their hotels you can book for tonight.

I called a few and was told their restaurants are open.

Schools already reopened in over 40 countries including 22 EU countries, China, Taiwan, Japan among others who all have way more cases than Thailand. Social distancing, handwashing  and masks are the new norm.

Virus has peaked and is now declining in the northern hemisphere. Now it's hitting the southern hemisphere as it's going into winter.  This virus needs to go through the population and then it will burn out as other corona viruses have done. If you're elderly, obese, diabetic, or have other comorbidities then you should take precautions.

Thais dont sit on the beach like this though as they'd get dark. Whenever I've been to the beach they're on sunloungers or taking a sunrise/sunset stroll and nobody wants to be near other groups of people anyway.

Yes regarding the retraction of the Closed beaches, Time is a great healer ???? time for people to forget , time to reorganise to have committees & meetings then issue instructions without explanation / reasons for these decisions, relief when an about face occurs.

Problem now , is that even WHO & CDC are nowchanging their guidelines ????

Concerning those wandering asymptomatic kids, ( kids are the problem) Its a great reminder of seasonal influenza and how we become acclimitized every year , you cannot beat natural human immune efficiency, ( after all we share and are inhabited by millions of viruses over evolutionary time) The shame is that Pharma are struggling to make a Profit out of our ill health ????, but the Novel Corona virus gives them this opportunity - hence the rush and emphasis on the vaccine, Pharmas clumsy way to mimic our natural immune response, followed by tech fixes of which is further surveillance , its really all about Money
