webfact Posted May 25, 2020 Share Posted May 25, 2020 Thousands more using inter-provincial buses since May 2 By THE NATION More people are using inter-provincial buses after the government eased its lockdown, which has allowed the Department of Land Transport to restore several bus routes, director-general Jirut Wisanjit said on Sunday (May 24). “Although some long-distance services are still not in operation to comply with the nighttime curfew, many inter-provincial routes of around 300 kilometres are open and have seen more commuters,” he said. “The department will gradually add buses to facilitate increased use and maintain social distancing.” The department reported that from March 1-25, the period before the State of Emergency, there were 966,930 passengers per day using public buses running between Bangkok and surrounding provinces; 141,238 passengers/day taking buses between the capital and other provinces; 9,128 using buses between provinces, and 2,379 using buses within a province. After emergency was clamped across the nation (March 26-May 1), the number of passengers decreased – 472,212 per day from Bangkok to surrounding provinces; 4,088 from the capital to other provinces; 5,612 on inter-provincial routes and 2,156 intra-provincial passengers. After the lockdown was eased (May 2-present), the number of passengers has increased – 508,487 per day travelling from Bangkok to surrounding provinces; 5,995 from Bangkok to other provinces; 9,017 on inter-provincial routes and 4,020 intra-provincial passengers.
