Tourism official pushes for 1 July return of international tourists to Thailand

The chief of the Association of Thai Travel Agents has begged the government to let tourists from countries who have controlled the coronavirus pandemic flood back into Thailand. He has said that Thailand should not miss the boat.

Not surprisingly, at the top of Wichit Prakopkoson's list were the Chinese.

In an upbeat article on Thai Rath the ATTA boss said that Thailand was ready to open the country up to tourism.

The country could get an edge versus other countries in the world that were not ready for tourism.

He said that tourism operators in the kingdom could wait no longer - now is the time to open up. He was principally referring to July 1st when international travel would be opened up again.

He thanked the government for their brilliant efforts regarding the containment of Covid-19 but stressed that businessmen and tourists from countries that have controlled the virus should be encouraged to come back.

He mentioned Chinese people, including nationals of Hong Kong and Macao, South Koreans, Taiwanese, Vietnamese and Laotians among others.

Normally Thailand would be welcoming three million tourists a month but even 100,000 would be a good start and bring in 5 billion baht, he said.

If a million came that would be a much needed 50 billion baht, said the Thai Rath article.

The news comes after the Bangkok Post on Friday reported that international tourists would be allowed to return to Thailand from 1 July.

However, when exactly foreign tourists will be able to return to Thailand is yet to be confirmed by the Thai government.

It is going to be way toooo much to see thousands upon thousands of Chinese running amok. It looks more and more and more that if war breaks out, Thailand will be kissing the side of their Chinese Master's obedient ring.

Look at the fools in Europe and the US. It is a mess...many people are just selfish and reckless. They even don't want to wear a mask to protect others. I am very disappointed about my own compatriots and all the other western countries. Asia will become the strongest region of the world in future. Good night US..good night Europe.

Didn't they miss the boat in 2018, when it sank with Chinese tourists outside Phuket?

China and their taking over territory with moving in on more - China's C19 all over the world - China getting too bullish and big mouthed. Honestly I am not against a skirmish.

Ah yes, let's encourage travel by the very same people who started the virus. Thailand is lucky that the virus didn't spread more, with all the Chinese who were here late last year and early this year.

We won't be that lucky the second time around.

I'm sure we're just around the corner from another pandemic brought on by China and eating creatures who shouldn't be eaten.

To top it off Chinese are known to be the cheapest group by country. They spend for their rooms and not much else.

Bad move.

First let tourists (from china) in not expats stranded away from there families.

It's this they way to show Thais there future?

Will these tourist need a letter that they are fit to travel and have 14 days quarantine when they arrive also with $100,000 worth of insurance including Covid-19 covers.  They can get the virus here and bring it here just lie anyone else.  If those coming on work permit need it then everyone need it.  You open the gate to the Chinese and the situation will be worse then before.

Never mind the Chinese think of your own people, July is way too early as it is still not safe to fully open the country from the inside or so we are informed by the government, therefore how is it possible to be ready to take on tourists from outside the country within four weeks.....????

Quote from OP

"He thanked the government for their brilliant efforts regarding the containment of Covid-19 but stressed that businessmen and tourists from countries that have controlled the virus should be encouraged to come back"

So its fair to say the citizens of the UK and the USA will be welcomed back in the region of November 2027.......

What about allowing free and unlimited interprovincial travel 1st and putting a travaql ban on the Chinese fore Thailand for the next 5 years, taking the THB to a 50:1 for the Euro and bringing back the real spenders?

when and if they are allowed out of their country....lets not forget,

With cities under lock-down and curfew, martial law is declared. O/S travel is by warrant only with a 14 day quarantine upon return. All internet goes through a central scan point in the interest of terrorism.... NWO wins without a shot being fired.

let me guess TAT will use the super abnormally low 57 deaths  only as a reason to say:  we did this & that ... we are the best, etc.... it is safe...

Is there a list of these 'creatures' somewhere?

So sad. You'll be able to spot the tourists arriving from Hong Kong by their fetters and chains, made in Beijing.

IMO this is the problem, this is their selling point to the government. Putting financials over the safety of the population.

And where do they get the figures from? Total BS reference the average spending of a Chinese or any other national on a budget package. Olive branch, if you have 100,000 - 1,000,000 tourists arriving from middle/upper classes, paying their way, then possible.

But they don't, and they need to realize this.
